Free classes
In the late afternoon, as the school bell rings, the "Free Classes" at Hoa Khuong Primary School begin.
The teacher entered the classroom, and the students all stood up to greet her. Taking advantage of the time, the teacher quickly began the lesson.
The students' eyes were intently focused, and the teacher's voice was gentle and full of love. Sometimes, the teacher would go down to each desk, patiently holding each student's hand to correct their handwriting and re-explaining math problems they hadn't quite understood.
According to Ms. Tran Nhat Huyen, Secretary of the Youth Union at Hoa Khuong Primary School, at the end of 2024, after the mid-term exams of the first semester, recognizing that the quality of students was not high and that many students had average or weak academic performance, the Youth Union developed a plan and proposed to the school leadership to organize a "Zero-Cost Classroom" model.
The students participating in the class are those with lower academic performance but lacking the means for extra tutoring, without family support, orphans, and students from large families, etc. The teachers are members of the school's Youth Union branch.

Since then, after school ends in the afternoon, the "Free Classrooms" light up to support students. Regularly, 2-3 times a week, each session lasting about 1.5 hours, teachers diligently guide and supplement the knowledge of each student.
To improve effectiveness, the school groups students into groups of approximately 15-20 students per group. They receive instruction in three core subjects: Mathematics, Vietnamese, and English.
N.D.P. (a 5th-grade student) has parents who work far away and is living with his maternal grandfather. To help improve his academic performance, the youth union brought Phuc to the "Zero-Cost Class" at school and also sent teachers to his home to provide additional support.
For example, PCV (3rd grade) has no father, his mother passed away in 2025 due to a traffic accident, and he is living with his grandmother and younger sibling. Understanding his difficulties, the youth union assigns 2-3 teachers to visit his home each week to help Vinh review his lessons and solidify his knowledge.
In addition to supporting V. in her studies, the Youth Union of Hoa Khuong Primary School also sponsors her, providing financial assistance of 500,000 VND per month to help her family cover living expenses.
Ms. Huynh Thi Hoang, Deputy Principal of Hoa Khuong Primary School, said that thanks to the regular maintenance of the "Zero-Cost Classroom," students have made significant progress. Their end-of-year results show improvement compared to before.
In addition, thanks to closer contact with the teacher, students become more open, relaxed, and confident, thereby changing their attitude and fostering a sense of self-motivation in their studies.

Further motivation
At Hoa Tien No. 1 Primary School, the "Classroom of Love" model for students who are slow learners or have difficulties in learning has been maintained from 2025 to the present.
To implement this model, the school assigns homeroom teachers to each class to be responsible for tutoring and supporting students who are struggling academically. In particular, teachers focus on reviewing and reinforcing students' knowledge before exams, helping them to master the material and achieve high academic results.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thinh, Secretary of the Hoa Tien Commune Youth Union, to encourage students to strive for excellence in their studies, the Commune Youth Union directs school-based youth branches to develop and implement various models to support and assist disadvantaged students.
Besides maintaining "Free Classrooms," many schools also set up "Free Booths" to provide books and learning materials to disadvantaged students before each new school year.

In particular, to support students in improving their learning conditions, the Youth Union of the commune connects with and mobilizes businesses and philanthropists to support study corners for disadvantaged and underprivileged students. To date, nearly 100 students in the commune have received "Study Corners for Students," each worth 1.5 million VND.
For orphaned students from disadvantaged backgrounds, the Hoa Tien Commune Women's Union compiles a list and connects them with organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to provide support so that the children can focus on their studies. As a result, all 58 orphaned children in Hoa Tien Commune are now receiving sponsorship of 500,000 VND per month.
In addition, during holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and the beginning of the new school year, the Women's Union of the commune mobilizes funds and gives gifts to encourage and support students in attending school, helping them to have more joy and motivation to strive for excellence in their studies and lives, and gradually achieve their dreams.
