School in Da Nang sinks, at risk of collapse just 3 months after inauguration

After many days of heavy rain, Tak Ngo school (Tra Linh commune, Da Nang city) suddenly cracked and seriously subsided, the foundation and walls of the classrooms were broken, and were at risk of collapsing at any time.

On the afternoon of November 1, Mr. Nguyen Tran Vy, Principal of Ngoc Linh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, said that Tak Ngo school had suffered serious subsidence, with large cracks appearing on the foundation and walls, posing a potential risk of collapse.

This school is located on a hillside. After many days of heavy rain, the school campus has a series of vertical and horizontal cracks. The concrete foundation has separated and slid down the slope, creating a deep ravine.

In the classrooms, the floor tiles are peeling and sagging; the walls are cracked all the way up to the roof. The fence system, gate and school yard are all deformed.

According to Mr. Vy, the incident happened many days ago but due to the rain and floods, local forces have only now been able to reach the school. Currently, the school foundation has been damaged and the entire area has collapsed, so it cannot be repaired.

Tak Ngo school was inaugurated in August 2025, built by the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district (old) in coordination with Ngoc Linh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Nam Tra My Love Connection Club and Han River East Bank Golf Club.

The project has a total investment of more than 1 billion VND, of which 500 million VND is sponsored by clubs and social organizations, the rest is matched by the locality.

The school has an area of ​​120 square meters, including a solid classroom, a teacher's office, a restroom, a playground, a roof and a protective fence, serving 34 students (14 first graders, 20 second graders) and 2 teachers from the highlands.

"Currently, the school has arranged for all students to move to the central school of the commune, about 10km away, to study semi-boarding and boarding, ensuring safety for teaching and learning," said Mr. Vy.
