Established in 2013, the Dong Trieu Ward Traffic Safety First Aid Volunteer Team currently maintains 10 members, including many motorbike taxi drivers, youth union members and Red Cross members in residential areas. With the characteristics of the area having many intersections, densely populated urban areas, large traffic volume, especially during rush hour, the risk of traffic accidents is very high. Realizing that, the team has assigned each residential area to have a volunteer on duty at the main roads to promptly support when an accident occurs.

Ms. Tran Thi Hong (65 years old), Captain of the Dong Trieu Ward Traffic Safety First Aid Volunteer Team, said: We always determine that our top priority is to be there as quickly as possible to provide first aid to the victims. Upon receiving the news, the members immediately contact and coordinate to take the victims to the nearest medical facility. Since the beginning of 2025, the team has participated in first aid for 6 traffic accident cases, including 2 cases that had to be transferred to a higher level for timely emergency care. Fortunately, there have been no deaths.

In Quang Yen ward, the Traffic Safety First Aid Volunteer Team is also showing positive results. After 9 years of operation, the team has participated in supporting and helping dozens of traffic accident victims, contributing to limiting risks and casualties. Mr. Vu Ba Hung (56 years old), Captain of the Traffic Safety First Aid Volunteer Team of Quang Yen ward, said: Previously, the traffic in the Roc market area was chaotic, accidents often occurred, many victims did not receive timely first aid. From that reality, the local motorbike taxi group established a Volunteer Team with the support of the Red Cross at all levels. Currently, thanks to the planned route and increased public awareness, traffic accidents have decreased significantly. However, the team is always ready to support victims in a timely manner, with the hope that no more accidents will occur on the road.

Not only being present at the scene in time, volunteers are also regularly trained and fostered in first aid skills to improve their response capacity. In October 2025, the Provincial Red Cross organized a training course on knowledge and skills of initial first aid for traffic safety first aid volunteer teams. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang (25 years old), a member of the Van Don Special Zone Traffic Safety First Aid Volunteer Team, participated in the training and shared: We were provided with a lot of very useful knowledge, helping us understand the correct first aid procedures. Thanks to that, when we encounter a real accident, we are more confident in handling it, avoiding making mistakes that endanger the victim. The training course not only helps us hone our skills but also gives us a sense of responsibility in our work.

In order to promote the effectiveness of the model, the Provincial Red Cross has built and expanded the first aid volunteer teams for traffic safety in many localities. According to statistics, the province currently has 22 teams with 130 volunteers regularly operating on key routes and densely populated areas. The teams are cared for by the Provincial Red Cross, supported with funding, uniforms, first aid kits, bandages, gloves, splints for fixing broken bones, helmets and necessary medical equipment to operate more professionally, safely and effectively.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, said: Every year, the Society develops a plan to direct and guide all levels of the Society to strengthen propaganda on traffic safety, integrating first aid content into community activities. At the same time, the Society coordinates to open level 1 and level 2 training classes so that volunteer teams can supplement their skills and be ready to respond when incidents occur.

According to the Provincial Red Cross, in the first 10 months of 2025, the Provincial Traffic Safety First Aid Volunteer Teams participated in providing on-site support for 120 traffic accidents, helping to transport 45 victims to hospitals in time. These figures not only reflect the practical results of activities but also demonstrate the humanitarian spirit and social responsibility of the volunteers.

The activities of the Traffic Safety First Aid Volunteer Teams have made an important contribution to ensuring traffic safety and order and spreading the spirit of "living for everyone" in the community.
