Hongkongfp quoted information from the head of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's security agency , Chris Tang, on December 1, saying that police had collected 20 pieces of construction nets from the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex, which was undergoing large-scale renovations when the horrific fire broke out on November 26.

"The places we sampled were from high, medium and low locations, not just accessible places from windows. Seven out of 20 of these mesh samples failed the fire safety test," Tang told reporters.

Police will continue to take more samples for testing, Mr. Chris Tang added.

"We believe it was the non-fireproof protective net and the foam board that allowed the fire to spread so quickly," Mr. Tang continued.

Police Crime and Security Division Director Joe Chan Tung added that 13 people, including 12 men and 1 woman aged between 40 and 77, have been arrested on charges of manslaughter in connection with the apartment fire. It is known that these people are related to the main construction contractor, the construction consultancy company and the contractors in charge of scaffolding, external walls, etc.

As of December 1, the death toll from the fire at the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex on November 26 has risen to 151. The death toll is expected to rise as the search continues.
