Upon hearing of the unusual natural disaster causing severe flooding and landslides in many areas on Indonesia's Sumatra island, leaving hundreds of people dead and missing, on November 30, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent condolences to President Prabowo Subianto.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung sent a message of condolences to Foreign Minister Sugiono.

Previously, on November 29, the Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said the total number of people killed by floods and landslides on the country's Sumatra island had increased to 303.

Rescuers said access to isolated areas on Sumatra island - the worst-hit area - was difficult.

BNPB chief Suharyanto said that although about 80,000 people had been evacuated, at least 279 people were still missing and hundreds were still trapped in three provinces on Sumatra island - Indonesia's westernmost region./.
