Actress, director, and producer Ngo Thanh Van revealed that her latest role is Kami in the Hollywood film "The Creator." Filmed in 2022, the movie will be released in Vietnam on September 29, 2023.

Make an impression

According to Ngo Thanh Van, Kami is a half-human, half-robot character from a futuristic world . In the promotional video for "The Creator," Ngo Thanh Van's character appears briefly, but it's enough for viewers to recognize her despite her blue eyes and unusual appearance.

"The Creator" is directed by Gareth Edwards and co-written by Chris Weitz. The film is set in a futuristic world—10 years after an artificial intelligence (AI) was created to protect humanity.

In previous years, Ngo Thanh Van participated in many other international films, such as: "Crouching Tiger", "Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny", "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", "Da 5 Bloods"… Among them, her role as Paige Tico in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", although not having much screen time, created emotions for the audience, earning her much praise. Paige Tico is the older sister of the character Rose Tico, played by Vietnamese-American actress Kelly Marie Tran.

Although he hasn't appeared in many international films and hasn't made as much of an impression as Ngo Thanh Van, Lien Binh Phat is still a young actor who has gained attention after the success of Leon Le's film "Song Lang". He also participated in "Come and Go" by Japanese director Lim Kah Wai. This film, released in 2021, features Lien Binh Phat as Nam, an intern from Vietnam who gets caught up in a murder case.

After the film "Come and Go," Lien Binh Phat participated in the film "The Foreign Doctor," which was filmed in Taiwan (China) and Vietnam. He played the male lead, acting alongside actress Zhang Junning. In this film, Lien Binh Phat plays a Vietnamese doctor living in Taiwan who is always dedicated to his patients. Zhang Junning plays a surgeon whose child has a terminal illness. They overcome life's difficulties together. The film is expected to be released on Netflix at the end of 2023.

Meanwhile, actress Hong Dao appeared in the series "Beff" (Vietnamese title: "Discord") produced by A24 and broadcast on Netflix. She played Hanh Trinh Lau, the mother of the main female character Amy Lau, played by Ali Wong.

In the scene, the character played by Hong Dao cooks sour soup for her husband Bruce Lau (played by Kevin Han Yee) and daughter. Hong Dao displays a humorous, witty, yet charming performance in her scenes. Although it's only a guest role with limited screen time, Hong Dao still delighted many viewers. They left numerous comments, expressing surprise at the sour soup featured in the film.

In addition, several other Vietnamese actors such as Meritorious Artist Le Thien, Quinn Truc Tran, People's Artist Lan Huong, etc., have collaborated and participated in recent international films.

Effort to learn

Participating in international film projects and working with foreign crews brings many emotions to Vietnamese actors, especially young ones.

Actress Quinn Truc Tran, who played Anh in "A Tourist's Guide to Love," expressed her pride in participating in this Hollywood film project, which will be exclusively released on Netflix worldwide, with Rachael Leigh Cook serving as both producer and lead actress.

Actor Lien Binh Phat said that what he gained from joining foreign film crews was learning a great deal – from professionalism and on-set discipline to acting experience… Meritorious Artist Le Thien, despite being a veteran actor, shared his feelings after participating in "A Tourist's Guide to Love": "As an older actor, I still constantly learn, especially from younger people. I am very happy to be filming with a foreign crew, especially with young actors like Rachael Leigh Cook, Scott Ly… I see in these actors passion, dedication, and professionalism. They always strive to perform their scenes to the best of their ability."

Actress Ngo Thanh Van spent three months studying and acting on the set of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," even though her role was short. This shows that a role in Hollywood requires actors to invest their utmost effort, regardless of the length of the role.

"Just being a part of a blockbuster film is something to be proud of, regardless of how many scenes or screen time I have. Through my small contribution, I want the world to 'see' us, pay more attention to Vietnam, and consequently care more about the Vietnamese people," Ngo Thanh Van confided.

The aforementioned actors, when given the opportunity to go international, have all done their best to make a good impression on the production team about Vietnamese actors. These efforts are gradually paying off as Vietnamese actors are gaining more attention on cross-border platforms and becoming known to audiences in many countries.

Ngo Thanh Van revealed that the sequel to "The Old Guard," in which she stars alongside Charlize Theron, has finished filming and will be released soon.
