The interest in the iPhone Fold stems from the fact that it is the first iPhone model to have a foldable screen, which has become Apple's answer to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold after many years.

However, the excitement for the iPhone Fold has been somewhat dampened by a new report that the starting price for the product will not be cheap, falling around $ 2,399. Previously, estimates suggested that the iPhone Fold could sell for between $ 2,000 and $ 2,500, on par with competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
According to Fubon analyst Arthur Liao, global smartphone sales are expected to decline 4% in 2026 to around 1.2 billion units. Global iPhone sales are also expected to decline 4% compared to 2025, with 234 million units sold. Liao said that rising component costs will be a major challenge for smartphone manufacturers next year, especially with RAM prices up 75% year-on-year and total material costs likely to increase by 5-7%.
For the iPhone Fold, Liao stressed that additional components like the OLED panel, hinge, and lightweight internal components will increase the cost. A recent report also said the iPhone Fold will have a crease-free design - one of the major problems Apple is trying to fix, even if it means sourcing more expensive screens from Samsung.
Fubon’s $2,399 price tag takes into account supply chain factors and Apple’s profit targets. Still, Liao believes the iPhone Fold will be a sales driver for the smartphone sector, predicting 15.4 million units sold, 5.4 million of which will be sold by 2026.
