Europe

* The Kremlin has repeatedly warned of a “grave mistake” when it rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statements at the United Nations (UN) that Moscow could only be forced into peace talks and that Kiev would not negotiate on Moscow’s terms to end the conflict.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, it was a "serious, systematic mistake" and would certainly "have consequences for the Kiev authorities".

He affirmed that Moscow supports peace , but only if it ensures its stability and achieves the goals of the special military campaign: "Without achieving these goals, Russia cannot be forced." (AFP)

* Britain is working to put Ukraine in the "strongest position" in a conflict with Russia before winter, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has said. But he refused to confirm whether London would allow Kiev to use British long-range precision weapons to strike deep inside Russia. (AFP)

* Russian strategic submarines Emperor Alexander III and Krasnoyarsk arrived at the Vilyuchinsk base on the Kamchatka Peninsula of the Pacific Fleet. These most modern submarines are assigned to the Pacific Fleet to perform strategic deterrence tasks, maintain and strengthen combat potential and military power. (TASS)

* Greece and Turkey are considering talks on maritime boundary demarcation in the eastern Mediterranean, the Greek Foreign Ministry said on Thursday. The deal is crucial to determining rights to potential gas fields and power infrastructure plans. (Reuters)

* Russia supports adding permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council for Asia, Africa and Latin America, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on September 24.

Mr. Lavrov said that developing countries do not have enough representatives in the Security Council of this international organization and "we need to satisfy the aspirations of Africa. There are common collective views in Africa that we respect." (TASS)

* French President Emmanuel Macron met his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian in New York on September 24, urging the Islamic Republic's leader to use his influence to ease rising tensions in Lebanon and warning Tehran against supporting Russia in the conflict in Ukraine.

President Macron also told his counterpart Pezeshkian that bilateral relations would only improve if Tehran immediately released three French citizens detained in the country. (Reuters, AFP)

* The Philippine military supports the permanent maintenance of the US missile system, according to a statement by the Southeast Asian nation's military commander, General Romeo Brawner, on September 25.

The US has deployed the Typhon medium-range missile system in the northern Philippines for annual joint military exercises, but has not withdrawn the system after the exercises. The two countries have a mutual defense treaty. (AFP)

* South Korea and Cuba held their first foreign ministerial-level dialogue since the two countries established diplomatic relations earlier this year on the sidelines of the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA.

During the meeting, which lasted about half an hour, the foreign ministers of the two countries discussed a range of bilateral issues, including plans to establish diplomatic missions in the two countries before the end of this year. (Yonhap)

* Israel intensified airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon and the Beqaa region on September 25, according to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Earlier, in his speech at the UN, President Biden sought to ease tensions, asserting that all-out war is not in anyone's interests and that a diplomatic solution is still possible. (Reuters)

* Iran is ready to end the nuclear standoff with the West , President Masoud Pezeshkian said at the UN General Assembly.

"We are ready to cooperate with the parties to the 2015 nuclear deal. If the commitments of the agreement are implemented fully and in good faith, dialogue on other issues can be conducted," Mr. Pezeshkian said. (Reuters)

* UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed disappointment at the role of foreign powers in the brutal power struggle in Sudan, which has led to terrible violence, when speaking to the UN General Assembly on September 24.

US President Joe Biden then called on all countries to cut off arms supplies to rival generals in Sudan, urging them to "speak up and say to them: Stop tearing your country apart. Stop blocking aid to the Sudanese people and stop this war now." (AFP)

* Mali is considering adjusting its security strategy during a meeting between the country's army chief and senior military officials, following a deadly terrorist attack in the capital Bamako that killed 75 people and injured more than 250 on September 17. (Reuters)
