Early detection, proper treatment
On October 14, Cho Ray Hospital and Medtronic Vietnam organized a workshop on continuing medical education on " updating the treatment of arrhythmia - cardiovascular diseases and comorbidities according to the new 2023 guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology " , attracting nearly 400 cardiologists, arrhythmia specialists and general practitioners from provincial hospitals in the Southeast and Central Highlands regions to attend.

It is estimated that 1.5 - 5% of the population suffers from various arrhythmias worldwide , at different ages , at any time in life, with a variety of symptoms ranging from mild to severe . Even patients with arrhythmias have no symptoms at all, or the symptoms are quite vague such as feeling unwell, chest discomfort. Therefore , doctors and patients easily miss the opportunity to diagnose and detect the disease early and promptly treat it according to the correct regimen to achieve the highest treatment efficiency .
Specialist II Kieu Ngoc Dung, Head of the Department of Arrhythmia Treatment , Cardiovascular Center ( Cho Ray Hospital ) said: Heart rhythm is formed by an electrical generator in the heart , this generator uses the electrical conduction system in the heart. Any abnormality in the generator, electrical conduction system causes arrhythmia. Symptoms of a heart beating too fast (frequency > 100 times/minute) or too slow (frequency . This causes symptoms of palpitations, shortness of breath, chest pain, chest tightness, dizziness, fainting. Some patients even have convulsions, sudden death. When having the above symptoms , patients should not be subjective , quickly go to a cardiologist or general practitioner for appropriate diagnosis and treatment . To detect and diagnose arrhythmia early, is to care for daily health, by we should spend 1 - 2 minutes listening to our heart, or touching the chest to feel the heartbeat. If the beat is too fast, too slow, or irregular, we suspect arrhythmia, go to a medical facility immediately. This disease is screened through electrocardiogram equipment available at all medical facilities ( medical stations, medical centers, private medical facilities). From early screening, patients will be received best possible treatment option.
Dr. Tran Le Uyen Phuong, Deputy Head of the Department of Arrhythmia Treatment, Cardiovascular Center, Cho Ray Hospital (right) and doctors discuss the medical training program
Treatment of arrhythmia depends on the specific condition . Simple arrhythmias can be treated with medication and lifestyle changes . If the arrhythmias are caused by structural or genetic abnormalities , treatment must be more intensive. This includes removing the arrhythmia foci using electrophysiological ablation techniques for life-threatening tachycardias or placing a single-chamber or dual-chamber pacemaker for slow arrhythmias or placing a triple -chamber pacemaker or an automatic defibrillator for patients with heart failure or low tachycardia .
Update new solutions for Vietnamese patients
At the program, leading experts shared the combination of various measures according to the latest international and Vietnamese recommendations in the treatment of arrhythmias. For example, using drugs (internal medicine); intervening with advanced and minimally invasive procedures such as pacemaker implantation, automatic defibrillator implantation, cardiac resynchronization device implantation or atrial fibrillation ablation by cryotherapy...
Accompanying doctors and patients in Vietnam as well as in more than 150 countries around the world , Medtronic shares the common mission of relieving pain, restoring health and prolonging human life. Over the past time, Medtronic 's technology and therapies have helped treat 70 diseases, including robotic surgery, insulin pumps, surgical instruments , and cardiovascular equipment that help save two patients every second .
Mr. Thomas Sander, Director of Cardiovascular Center Medtronic Vietnam & Medtronic Cambodia , Myanmar and Laos shared: Medtronic provides the most advanced medical technology with diverse , minimally invasive solutions for interventional treatment of cardiovascular diseases in general, arrhythmias in particular. Specifically, pacemakers, conduction system pacing solutions, cardiac resynchronization solutions and atrial fibrillation ablation using cryotherapy techniques... We are committed to supporting the training of medical professionals in Vietnam. With training programs such as MEDPACE, MedEXPERT, MEDICE and MED SYCHRO for thousands of doctors, we hope to help more and more patients across the country to be treated with advanced cardiovascular solutions.
Mr. Thomas Sander, Director of Cardiovascular Center Medtronic Vietnam & Medtronic Cambodia , Myanmar and Laos spoke at the seminar .
Recently , Medtronic introduced the smallest generation of wireless pacemakers ( the size of a vitamin pill ), placed in the heart chamber , giving patients a natural feeling , without feeling that there is a device placed in the heart.
Preventable arrhythmias
According to Dr. Dung, congenital arrhythmias cannot be prevented . Lifestyle arrhythmias can be prevented by maintaining a heart-healthy diet . The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends that people have a healthy diet to help control weight and stabilize heart rate. That is, eat plenty of whole grains, vegetables and fruits, lean meats, fish, low-fat dairy products and unsaturated fats (such as olive oil); avoid saturated fats, trans fats and cholesterol. Maintain a stable weight , avoid overweight - obesity through exercise , daily activities . At the same time, stay away from cigarettes , limit alcohol consumption , and control stress ( stress increases the risk of heart disease ) .
