(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Striker Nguyen Dinh Bac is the only player to win the top scorer title at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship. He has made history in Vietnamese football as the first person to win this title.

Four players have each scored four goals in this year's tournament: Nguyen Dinh Bac, Ali Azaizeh (U23 Jordan), Leonardo Farah Shahin (U23 Lebanon), and Ryunosuke Sato (U23 Japan).

However, according to the AFC's announcement, Dinh Bac alone has claimed the top scorer title for this year's tournament.

According to AFC regulations, when players have the same number of goals, the number of assists they have made will be considered. Dinh Bac and Sato of the Japan U23 team both have two assists in the tournament, putting them ahead of Ali Azaizeh and Leonardo Farah Shahin.

If players remain tied on the number of assists, their total playing time in this year's tournament will be considered. The player with less total playing time demonstrates higher performance and will be ranked higher.

Dinh Bac had an estimated total playing time of approximately 361 minutes across 6 matches. Meanwhile, Sato's total playing time was 446 minutes. Therefore, Dinh Bac beat Sato and the other players, claiming the top scorer title alone.

Ryunosuke Sato received the award for best player of the tournament. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Rui Araki of the Japan U23 team won the award for best goalkeeper, beating Li Hao (China U23). The fair-play award went to the South Korea U23 team.

For Nguyen Dinh Bac specifically, he made history in Vietnamese football by becoming the first domestic player to win the top scorer title at the U23 Asian Championship.

Previously, the Vietnam U23 team had a player who came close to winning this title, Nguyen Quang Hai, but he was unable to achieve complete success. In 2018, Quang Hai scored 5 goals, but he was still one goal behind the top scorer Ali Almoez (Qatar U23). Therefore, Quang Hai unfortunately missed out on the Golden Boot award at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship.
