On the afternoon of January 18th, Saudi Arabia time, the Vietnam U23 team took to the training field in preparation for their semi-final match against China U23 at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship. Nguyen Dinh Bac no longer had to train separately but joined his teammates in the training session.
Previously, Dinh Bac and Van Thuan had to train separately in earlier training sessions. Dinh Bac's injury is not too serious, but it has significantly affected his ability to play.
He revealed after the quarter-final victory against the UAE U23 team that he had played through the pain of a groin muscle injury. This is also part of the reason why the player born in 2004 often comes on as a substitute.
With the current progress, Dinh Bac is likely to regain his peak fitness and be ready for the crucial match against China U23. Vietnam U23 will continue to field its strongest lineup to compete for a place in the tournament final.
Also at this training session, head coach Kim Sang Sik gathered the players to illustrate the tactical plan for the 2026 U23 Asian Championship semi-final. The tactical meeting lasted about 15 minutes, summarizing the analysis of the opponent's strengths and weaknesses and the strategy for the Vietnam U23 team to exploit.
On January 19th, Coach Kim and representatives from the Chinese U23 team will attend a pre-match press conference to exchange information.
The semi-final match between Vietnam U23 and China U23 at the 2026 AFC U23 Championship will take place at 10:30 PM on January 20th in Saudi Arabia.
