'Every SEA Games medal is an honor for the country'
At the ceremony to send off the Vietnamese sports delegation to the 33rd SEA Games yesterday (November 28), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned the task to the Vietnamese officials, coaches and athletes, which is to win the highest possible position, exceed the target and bring Vietnamese culture to international friends.
"Recently, the Party and State have shown efforts to overcome the consequences of floods, improve life, production and business in the Central provinces. The spirit of resilience has flowed in the veins of the Vietnamese people. That is also a factor contributing to the strength of the Vietnamese sports delegation.
I was moved when the Vietnamese sports delegation showed the spirit of mutual love and support for the people of Central Vietnam. The SEA Games is both the largest sports arena in the region and a festival demonstrating the will and spirit of the nation," Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed.

In the last 2 SEA Games (31 and 32), Vietnamese sports always held the top position. This time, the Vietnamese sports delegation attended the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand with more than 1,165 members, including 841 athletes competing in 47 events and sub-events, out of a total of 66 events held at the congress. The expected target is from 91 to 110 gold medals, in which athletics (target 12 gold medals) and shooting (target 7 gold medals) continue to play a key role.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that each medal won by an athlete at the 33rd SEA Games is not only a personal glory, but also the pride of the country.
"The success of Vietnamese sports at the 33rd SEA Games is the common success of the whole country, of every Vietnamese person, strongly encouraging the whole Party, the whole people, the whole army, strengthening confidence, building a strong and prosperous country," the Prime Minister emphasized.
Vietnam Sports set date to go to Thailand
Besides some teams arriving early to prepare for training and competition, members of the Vietnamese sports delegation will arrive in Thailand on December 7, 2 days before the opening ceremony.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Head of the Vietnamese sports delegation, confirmed that preparations have been completed.
Sports industry leaders pledged: "With the trust and expectations of millions of fans; with the silent efforts over many months and years of each athlete and coach, we promise to turn that trust into motivation, turn that expectation into achievements, and bring worthy victories to the Fatherland."
Men's football will be the "signal" of the 33rd SEA Games for the Vietnamese sports delegation, when U.23 Vietnam faces U.23 Laos (the opening match of Group B) at Rajamangala Stadium (Bangkok) at 4:00 p.m. on December 3. Besides notable Olympic sports such as athletics, swimming, archery, shooting, weightlifting, gymnastics... football is also receiving special attention. The Vietnamese women's team is aiming for the record of the 5th consecutive SEA Games gold medal, while U.23 Vietnam wants to return to the Southeast Asian throne after 3 years of waiting.

At the departure ceremony on November 28, the Vietnamese sports delegation wore new outfits from Jogarbola's Rise Beyond collection.
Jogarbola has been involved with the teams for many years, from quiet training sessions to glorious moments.
Rise Beyond is built on the image of a magical night sky: "Where fireworks bloom, stars shine and shooting stars pass by in their most brilliant moments". That is also the image that symbolizes the journey of the athletes: quiet, patient and exploding at the right time.
In the new collection of Vietnamese athletes' uniforms, red is the main color, representing the Vietnamese national flag, the will and determined fighting spirit of the Vietnamese people.
The white tone, a color associated with glorious milestones such as the 2008 AFF Cup championship and the 30th SEA Games gold medal, was introduced for the first time into the official competition uniform, as a reminder of the glorious past and belief in the future.
Finally, the color blue is a completely new highlight. The color tone not only symbolizes peace, hope and renewable energy, but also the color of the open sky, where Vietnamese athletes stride to reach new limits.
