Da Nang businesses focus on exporting to the Halal market

DNO - Realizing the great potential of the global Halal market, many Da Nang businesses have proactively invested in production technology, improved quality standards and expanded exports. This is considered a strategic direction to help businesses diversify markets, improve competitiveness and contribute to the city's economic growth.

Invest in machinery and expand production

To improve production capacity and meet the diverse standards of export markets, Huong Que Production - Processing - Import-Export Trading Company Limited (Hoa Khanh Ward) has invested more than 1 billion VND in a new technological line to serve the production of product lines according to orders from international partners.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son, Director of the company, said that the production and business situation from the beginning of 2025 until now has maintained a stable growth momentum, with revenue increasing by about 7% over the same period in 2024.

The company still regularly exports to traditional markets such as the EU, South America... Notably, the company has just expanded its connection with partners in Dubai and is preparing to export the first shipment scheduled for November 7.

Mr. Son shared that the company invests in modern machinery systems, advanced processing lines, and new technology to standardize products according to the requirements of each market, especially the Halal market.

Meeting the strict criteria of this market not only helps enhance brand value but also creates the premise for businesses to expand production scale, aiming for sustainable development.

“In the last months of 2025 and into 2026, Huong Que will continue to focus on major export markets such as the EU, South America and the Halal market. The signals from these markets are very positive,” said Mr. Son.

Meanwhile, My Phuong Food Company Limited (Ba Na commune) is one of the pioneers in Da Nang to proactively build and maintain Halal certification for many years.

The company has continuously re-evaluated its Halal certification for three years and successfully exported to two Halal markets, Malaysia and Israel.

In 2025, the company will participate in many international fairs to expand export opportunities to large and potential Halal markets such as: Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Egypt and India.

Ms. Mai Thi Y Nhi, Director of My Phuong Food Company Limited, believes that the company's advantage lies in its natural raw materials and clean production process, which almost completely meets Halal requirements without having to change too much.

From input materials to processing, packaging, labeling... of baked coconut cake products are all natural, in accordance with Halal market standards.

Ms. Nhi also said that after Da Nang merged its administrative boundaries with Quang Nam (old), the agricultural raw material area of the region became richer and more diverse.

This opens up great opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises to develop purely plant-based, environmentally friendly products; take advantage of local raw materials to participate deeply in the global Halal supply chain.

Besides Muslims, many customers in the US and Europe also choose Halal-certified products because of their safety, transparency and health-friendliness. That shows that Halal is not only a niche market but also a global consumer trend.

Removing barriers for business access

Although the Halal market potential is considered to be very large, accessing and expanding exports to this region is still a difficult problem for Da Nang businesses. In reality, many businesses believe that more specific support mechanisms and policies are needed to help them overcome initial barriers.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son said that Halal certification is an important “passport” for products to enter the markets of Muslim countries. However, the cost of obtaining certification and maintaining annual Halal standard assessment is quite high, making it difficult for many small and medium enterprises to access.

“To be granted Halal certification, businesses must spend more than 100 million VND and every year must conduct an assessment and re-evaluation of the entire production process. The city’s Department of Industry and Trade needs to have support policies or recommendations to find solutions to help businesses be more confident in investing in Halal standards,” Mr. Son shared.

Similarly, Ms. Mai Thi Y Nhi also said that in reality, many businesses, especially small and medium enterprises, are still vague about the concept of Halal and lack information about this market, so they cannot access it.

Businesses need to proactively research and participate in domestic and foreign fairs and exhibitions, taking advantage of both online and direct promotion to promote products and connect with partners.

The Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang City said that up to now, there are 9 businesses in the area that have been granted Halal certification. To support businesses in researching and promoting the Halal market, in recent years, the city has implemented many programs and activities.

Most recently, in September 2025, the City Department of Industry and Trade organized a business delegation to participate in booths at the 2025 Malaysia International Halal Exhibition to introduce and promote typical products, helping businesses access information about the Halal product and service market.

From there, there will be appropriate trade promotion policies and step-by-step penetration and expansion of export opportunities to Malaysia and other Muslim countries.

At the exhibition, some businesses connected with some foreign partners such as: My Phuong Food Company Limited signed a contract to export goods with a Malaysian partner; Huong Que Production - Processing - Import-Export Trading Company Limited signed a cooperation contract with buyers from the Philippines, Malaysia, China...
