The Information recently reported that Apple is delaying the launch of the iPhone Air 2 in order to “redesign the product and make it more appealing to consumers.” This change reportedly includes the addition of a second camera.
“Some Apple engineers hope to launch a redesign with a second camera lens in spring 2027, around the same time as the planned iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e releases,” the report said. However, “it is still too early to say” whether this is possible.

The iPhone Air did not sell as well as Apple expected.
Apple is reportedly delaying the launch of the iPhone Air 2. According to The Information, Apple recently “informed engineers and suppliers that it would remove the next iPhone Air from its schedule without giving a new release date.” The report quotes “three people involved in the project.”
The second generation of the original iPhone Air was expected to launch next fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold. According to The Information, the device was planned to be lighter than the current iPhone Air and have a larger battery capacity.
Apple is also developing a vapor chamber cooling system, first seen on the iPhone 17 Pro, to equip the iPhone Air 2. Another rumor from the supply chain last week said the iPhone Air 2 could also have two cameras.

An iPhone Air 2 with dual cameras, vapor chamber cooling, and a larger battery is in development.
Unfortunately, all of this is uncertain at this point. The report says that Apple “has not completely canceled the next iPhone Air.” In fact, some Apple engineers and manufacturers “are still working on the project.”
However, there is currently no specific release date and the decision to remove the iPhone Air 2 from the schedule is said to be “rare, if not unprecedented.”
The Information attributed the decision to lower-than-expected iPhone Air sales. The report said Foxconn has “dismantled all of the first-generation production lines, except for one and a half, and is expected to halt all production by the end of this month.”
Luxshare, Apple's other iPhone Air manufacturing partner, also ended production of the device at the end of October. With this information, experts now predict that Apple will launch three new iPhone models next fall: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Fold. The basic iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to launch the following year, in the spring of 2027.
The Information also offers a glimmer of hope to iPhone fans that there's a chance the product is getting a significant redesign, with one source saying Apple could still release a second-generation iPhone Air as early as spring 2027, alongside the standard iPhone 18 and the low-cost 18e model.
However, for many users who prefer thinness and lightness, this is still a disappointment. Perhaps Apple does not realize that not all iPhone models are made to sell well but have strong value for a certain group of users. Or maybe, Apple knows but still has a profit-first perspective, as they responded similarly to the iPhone mini and iPhone 16e.
