Vietnam U23 striker Nguyen Dinh Bac could hardly believe his eyes when he became the top scorer at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship.

After learning he had won the Golden Boot award at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship , striker Dinh Bac exclaimed just two words: "Oh my God!" on his personal page. The top scorer of the Vietnam U23 team seemed unable to believe he had received such a prestigious award at the continental tournament, despite the competition from many strong opponents.

Within just a few hours, Dinh Bac 's status update received nearly 100,000 likes and heart reactions, along with almost 10,000 comments. Teammates and fans congratulated Dinh Bac on reaching the most memorable milestone of his career at the recent U23 Asian Championship.

Dinh Bac had the same number of goals as Ryunosuke Sato (Japan U23), Ali Azaizeh (Jordan U23), and Leonardo Farah Shahin (Lebanon U23). However, according to AFC regulations, the top scorer title is determined based on the number of minutes played when players have the same goal-scoring record. While Sato played 446 minutes, Dinh Bac only played 361 minutes, 85 minutes less, thus giving him the win.

At the tournament held in Saudi Arabia, the Vietnam U23 team scored a total of 10 goals, with Dinh Bac contributing 4 of them. These crucial goals from the number 7 helped Vietnam U23 advance to the semi-finals. In the bronze medal match against South Korea U23, Dinh Bac also scored a beautiful goal to increase the score to 2-1.

In addition to the top scorer award given by the organizers, Dinh Bac also received the award for the best goal of the group stage. That was the goal scored by the CAHN club striker against the host team, U23 Saudi Arabia.

Perhaps the most regrettable thing for Dinh Bac was the red card in the match against South Korea U23. With a suspension of at least two matches, he will miss the Vietnam national team's match against Malaysia on March 31st, in the final qualifying round for the 2027 Asian Cup.
