On April 25th, at the Plei Ơi National Historical and Cultural Relic Site, the People's Committee of Chư A Thai commune, Gia Lai province, organized the rain-praying ceremony of Yang Pơtao Apui (King of Fire) according to the traditional customs of the Jrai people.
From early morning on the same day, thousands of local people flocked to the Chu Tao Yang mountain area within the Plei Oi National Historical and Cultural Relic Site in Chu A Thai commune to watch Siu Pho and Rolan Hieo – two assistants of the 14th Fire King – along with the council of village elders and local people perform the ritual.

The two assistants of the 14th Fire King were Rơlan Hieo, who performed the "eagle spreading its wings" dance, and Siu Phơ, who recited the ancient prayers.
At the ceremony, the people of Chu A Thai commune prepared a large black pig, a jar of wine, a candle made of beeswax, and a plate of rice as offerings to the deities.
In a solemn atmosphere, Mr. Rơlan Hieo performed the "eagle spreading its wings" dance, while Mr. Siu Phơ recited prayers, asking the spirits to grant the village favorable weather, bountiful harvests, and a prosperous and happy life for the people…
After the ceremony concludes, the local people celebrate together with food, performances of traditional gong music, and Xoang dances of the J'rai people.
Mr. Pham Van Luong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chu A Thai commune, said that the Jrai people, both in the past and present, organize the rain-praying ceremony of Yang Potao Apui.
The rain-praying ceremony aims to pray for the people's lives to be filled with health, prosperity, happiness, and abundant harvests.

After the rain-praying ceremony, the people joined in the festive atmosphere with traditional dances.
"With the aim of preserving and promoting the distinctive local cultural values, we organized a reenactment of the rain-praying ritual of Yang Pơtao Apui in accordance with the folk beliefs, customs, and traditions of the Jrai ethnic group," Mr. Luong said.
Alongside the rain-praying ceremony at the Plei Ơi historical site, the People's Committee of Chư A Thai commune organized cultural and sports competitions for ethnic minorities with various activities: gong performances, weaving, statue carving, brocade weaving, stilt walking for men and women, and crossbow shooting for men and women, all aimed at educating willpower and promoting physical fitness for national defense. Visitors can also shop at stalls to purchase unique local products.
