Recently, a series of photos and videos showing traffic congestion in the Tham Ma Pass area (also known as the Nine Bends Pass), Tuyen Quang province (formerly Ha Giang province), were posted on social media and attracted a lot of attention.
Consequently, the traffic jam stretched for several hundred meters, with vehicles practically at a standstill for an hour.
Many internet users jokingly compared the traffic jam on this famous slope to Hanoi during rush hour, when countless vehicles are stuck, only able to move inch by inch.

Huy Manh, the person who posted the photos, said that the traffic congestion on Tham Ma slope was recorded at 4 PM on November 14th. According to him, the area is preparing for the buckwheat flower festival, which attracts a large number of tourists .
Initially, the festival was scheduled to open on November 15th, but it was later adjusted to November 29th. Many visitors who had booked in advance still maintained their travel plans.
"The weather has been quite nice these past few days, and it's also the peak season for buckwheat flowers to bloom, so there are a lot of visitors coming to admire the scenery."
"Tham Ma Pass is also one of the beautiful check-in spots with this flower, attracting a large number of visitors, leading to traffic congestion," Huy Manh said.

"For the past few days, local tour operators have almost run out of motorbikes for rent. Tours leading foreign tourists also have no drivers available."
"Even many accommodations in Dong Van, Lo Lo Chai village, or at the foot of the Lung Cu flagpole are fully booked," Huy Manh added.
A representative from a travel agency also revealed that on the morning of November 14th alone, their agency welcomed over 300 domestic and international tourists and rented out more than 200 motorbikes.
Nguyen Vinh Duong, a young man working in tourism in Tuyen Quang (formerly Ha Giang), said he also encountered prolonged traffic congestion on Tham Ma slope in the early afternoon of November 14th while traveling from Yen Minh to Lung Cu.
“We arrived at Tham Ma slope at 2:15 PM, right when the traffic was congested. After nearly half an hour of being stuck in the gridlock, our group finally managed to get out of the traffic jam,” Duong said.
According to the young man, from early morning, many roads began to become congested due to a sudden surge in visitors. In addition, some local roads were under construction, making travel difficult.
Furthermore, due to the large number of people flocking to the slope at the same time, the parking lot in the scenic area was overloaded and there wasn't enough space, so vehicles had to park along both sides of the highway.
This slows down traffic flow, making it difficult for large vehicles such as trucks and buses to make U-turns at the bend, leading to localized traffic congestion.

According to the locals, November is the best time to see buckwheat flowers because the weather is cool, not too cold, and quite dry, and a large number of visitors are expected to flock here.
Visitors planning to come here should book their accommodations early, and to avoid overcrowding, they should travel on weekdays, excluding peak hours.
Duong also shared that buckwheat flowers are no longer as difficult to find as before, because they have been propagated and planted in many places, and even out of season, some locations still have flowers.
“The old Ha Giang not only has beautiful buckwheat flower season but also many other flower seasons. Tourists can plan a visit here after the New Year or after the Lunar New Year to admire peach blossoms, plum blossoms, pear blossoms, etc.,” he suggested.
"However, during peak season, the flowers will be more vibrant, and the plants taller and more beautiful," he added.
