House living in the middle of the road refuses to move because of huge compensation demands

In 2008, the leaders of Tianjin City (China) planned to renovate the Binhai New Area and the Old Town into a tourist destination. To achieve this goal, households living in the relevant area were required to demolish and receive compensation.
The investor offered attractive compensation conditions, so many households agreed to move immediately. However, a few households still felt unsatisfied with the compensation for house demolition, including Aunt Truong's family. Aunt Truong's family had normal economic conditions. In her last years, she lived in a house of about 50 square meters.
With the advice of relatives and friends, Aunt Zhang initially requested compensation of only 1 million yuan (3.4 billion VND), then she gradually raised the price. The investor negotiated with Aunt Zhang many times, and finally they proposed compensation of 3 million yuan (10.3 billion VND).
However, the investor was surprised when Aunt Truong demanded an increase in compensation fee to 100 million yuan (340 billion VND). Faced with Aunt Truong's sky-high price, the construction team chose to revise the drawings, skipping the demolition and relocation of her house.
It was not until the project had begun construction and the surrounding houses were gradually demolished that Aunt Truong hurriedly contacted the investor again. However, basically all construction plans had been completed, so the investor could not agree to Aunt Truong's request.
16 years without electricity or water, want to leave but can't
Decades have passed, the surrounding apartments have all moved away, only Aunt Zhang’s house is still located in the middle of the construction area. Many families have used the compensation money to buy new houses, now the house prices have increased by tens of thousands of yuan. Aunt Zhang’s house has no electricity or water, the surrounding living environment is harsh, and it is next to a garbage dump. Due to the family’s economic decline, she can only make a living by picking up trash.
As for Aunt Truong, greed made her lose the opportunity to move out and receive a large compensation. Greed made her lose her composure, only seeing the possibility of putting pressure on the investor without realizing that she was in a weak position.
Under the instigation of relatives and friends, Aunt Zhang repeatedly made self-serving compensation claims. Excessive pursuit of personal interests not only harms one's own long-term interests, but also has a negative impact on society.
Looking back at Aunt Truong's life, many people cannot help but feel regretful. If she could have kept her initial sobriety and not been blinded by greed, perhaps her family's life would have been different later on. Aunt Truong's case is also a warning for everyone when faced with the temptation of money. We must stick to the actual situation to make the wisest decision, not only suitable for ourselves but also for the other person.
In another development, after Aunt Truong's story was widely shared, it received a lot of attention. In addition to criticism of the family, some people expressed another perspective that the increase of "nail houses" like Aunt Truong's family also shows the increasing awareness of people about the importance of protecting their rights and interests against real estate demolition projects. Previously, many homeowners after leaving confided that they regretted signing the agreement to demolish their houses because they did not receive proper compensation for their real estate.
After all, the development of the city cannot be hindered by personal greed, but it is even more impossible to ignore the legitimate rights and interests of individuals in exchange for completing the goal.
Many people have suggested that to overcome this situation, a third party needs to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the demolished area, the damage to the people and the benefits of urban development. This would not only ensure that people like Ms. Truong receive reasonable compensation but also give the construction company a clearer basis to control costs.
