West Ham's humiliating defeat in the penultimate round has effectively ended their relegation battle. The Hammers are now stuck in 18th place with 36 points, two points behind Tottenham but having played one more game.
Furthermore, West Ham's goal difference is far behind their direct rivals (-22 compared to -9). At this point, Spurs' task becomes easier. In their final two matches against Chelsea and Everton, the "Spurs" only need one more point to almost certainly secure their place in the Premier League for the 2026/27 season.
West Ham still have hope, but only in theory. Nuno Santo's side need to beat Leeds by an unthinkable margin in the final round, and hope Tottenham slip up, to have any chance of turning the tide.
West Ham are very close to relegation to the Championship for the first time since the 2011/12 season. The London club once enjoyed a period of success, finishing 6th and 7th in the Premier League for two consecutive seasons (2020/21, 2021/22), culminating in the 2022/23 Conference League title. Now, despite having one of the largest and most modern stadiums in England, West Ham are preparing to start all over again in the Championship.
Conversely, Newcastle have 49 points and have rekindled their very slim hopes of securing a European cup spot.
