U22 Laos had a good start against U22 Malaysia in the second match of Group B of the 33rd SEA Games men's football at Rajamangala Stadium on the evening of December 6 when they opened the score in the 3rd minute.

However, mistakes from the defense and goalkeeper caused the "Land of a Million Elephants" team to let U22 Malaysia equalize before coming back to defeat with a final score of 4-1.

Notably, in the 83rd minute, when the opponent was leading 3-1, U22 Laos captain Phetdavanh Somsanid had an "extremely bad" move when he tackled to block the attack of striker Rahman Daud, causing the opponent to fall to the ground.

Despite being the proactive player, Phetdavanh Somsanid himself suffered a serious injury and needed the help of the medical team to take care of him. The midfielder born in 2001 was diagnosed with a broken right leg, and most likely both the tibia and fibula. After first aid, he was put on a stretcher with his right leg tightly wrapped, before being taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Before leaving the field, Phetdavanh Somsanid also received a second yellow card from the referee, which means a red card and makes the U22 Laos team play with only 10 players on the field. Playing with less players caused U22 Laos to receive a fourth goal in the 90th minute and officially say goodbye to SEA Games 33 after 2 consecutive losses in the group stage.

The victory over U22 Laos helped U22 Malaysia surpass U22 Vietnam to take the top spot in Group B, thereby gaining a big advantage before entering the final match against coach Kim Sang Sik's team on December 11. In the final match, U22 Malaysia only needs to not lose to qualify for the next round, while U22 Vietnam must win to secure a place in the knockout round.

In case of losing or drawing with U22 Malaysia, U22 Vietnam still has a chance to win a ticket to continue if they are the best second-placed team in the group stage.
