Vietnam women's team finalizes list of 23 players for SEA Games 33

TPO - On the afternoon of December 1, Coach Mai Duc Chung finalized the list of 23 players for the Vietnamese women's team to participate in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, with a core of experienced players who have been with the team for many years.

Three players not on the final list include Duong Thi Van, Ngan Thi Thanh Hieu and Vu Thi Hoa. Duong Thi Van has not fully recovered from her injury, while Thanh Hieu and Vu Thi Hoa need more time to gain experience.

The squad that coach Mai Duc Chung chose includes many experienced players who accompanied him in the 2023 World Cup campaign such as: Tran Thi Kim Thanh, Hoang Thi Loan, Le Thi Diem My, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, Pham Hai Yen and captain Huynh Nhu.

Along with retaining the veteran squad, Coach Mai Duc Chung continues to carry out the generational transition process. A series of players born in 2000 or later such as Tran Thi Duyen, Tran Thi Hai Linh, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha, Ngoc Minh Chuyen or Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang will have the opportunity to take on a bigger role at this SEA Games.

In the last 4 Congresses, the Vietnamese women's team under the leadership of coach Mai Duc Chung won gold medals. The coach, over 70 years old, hopes to continue to create more historical milestones with the "Golden Star Warriors" in the regional arena.

According to the plan, the team will leave for Bangkok at 8:40 tomorrow morning before moving to Chonburi, the venue for the women's football competition at the 33rd SEA Games. Vietnam is in the same group with Myanmar, the Philippines and Malaysia. Of which, Myanmar and the Philippines are considered formidable opponents thanks to their strong reinforcements.

Coach Mai Duc Chung shared: “Teams in the region invest a lot and continuously naturalize players, creating great pressure. Vietnamese players are at a disadvantage in terms of physique and physical strength, but they have spirit, will, agility and dexterity. The recent training period in Japan and quality friendly matches have helped the team improve their skills and confidently aim for the SEA Games with the highest goal.”
