'Vietnam team aims to beat Philippines'

Vietnam will face the Philippines in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at Rizal Memorial Stadium on November 16.

Coach Troussier and his team regrouped and had their first practice session on November 6. Before the practice session on November 7, center back Bui Hoang Viet Anh confirmed that the goal that coach Philippe Troussier set for the team was 3 points.

"I am very honored to be called up by Coach Troussier to the Vietnam national team. The goal of the coaching staff and the whole team is to win the first match against the Philippines. The Vietnam national team has spent a long time training together, I personally think the team will not encounter many difficulties. The whole team has prepared for the upcoming match. Playing on artificial turf will create some difficulties but we have to adapt to the conditions of the tournament.

Bui Hoang Viet Anh (number 20) participated in the friendly match with Korea.

Yesterday (November 6), Coach Troussier showed the team videos of the past matches so that the whole team could review what they had done and what they had not done to gain experience. In the coming time, the players will practice to improve as much as possible, specifically in the development of the ball from home field," Viet Anh shared.

"We have watched the Philippines' matches. In the near future, the head coach will show us more videos to see which players need to be countered. The team will first play away against the Philippines, then return home to welcome Iraq. Hopefully, the audience will come to the stadium to cheer on the Vietnamese team."

The central defender born in 1999 shared more about his experiences with the Vietnamese team in past friendly matches against strong opponents.

"In the past time, the Vietnamese team has competed with opponents from low to high level, with some very difficult matches. From the recent training sessions, I personally learned a lot, especially the 3 matches against China, Uzbekistan, and Korea, which are very strong teams, thereby helping the whole team prepare well for the upcoming tournament. The whole team is very confident and the goal is to win 3 points," said the center back of the Hanoi Police Club.

Viet Anh received a red card in the match against Korea after a collision with Son Heung-min. Recalling this situation, the 24-year-old midfielder said that it was not a foul on the striker who plays for Tottenham.

Viet Anh was disqualified from the match.

"I did not make a mistake in this situation, but that's the game, I have to accept it. I also learned a lesson to limit situations like this in the future," Viet Anh said.

Assessing the quality of current young players, Viet Anh affirmed: "Each coach will have different philosophies. I think that the head coach has to carefully consider and evaluate which players to choose. I think they are young players with potential and are capable of playing in the national team.

Besides the Vietnamese players, Coach Troussier also called up a number of U.23 players to the national team to prepare for the 2024 U.23 Asian Cup, including Vo Nguyen Hoang.

Although not in the national team, Nguyen Hoang considers it an honor to practice with the national team members.

"I am not on the official list of the Vietnam national team, but being called up to practice with my seniors on the team is a great honor for me, and also a motivation for me to try harder in the future.

Opportunities will come to every player. Coach Troussier is very good. I learned a lot from him. I will seize every opportunity he gives me to be on the upcoming list. Training with my seniors in the national team is a great honor for me. I learned a lot from them and always consider them as my destination. I will try my best. I am aiming for the role models of Tuan Hai and Tien Linh," said Nguyen Hoang.
