Vietnam team has Xuan Son again

After nearly a year away from the field due to injury, striker Xuan Son was called back to the Vietnam national team by coach Kim Sang-sik in the November training session, preparing for the match against Laos in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. This is considered a positive signal for the Vietnamese national team's attack in the context of domestic strikers having problems with form.

If he proves to be in good form and is able to play in the rematch against the host team Laos on November 18, this will be the first time Xuan Son has officially played since the final match of the AFF Cup 2024 (winning against Thailand on January 5). The final match that brought Vietnam to the championship, in a certain perspective, has become a big obsession for Xuan Son when he suffered a very serious injury, had to undergo surgery and was out of the top competition for the past 11 months.

After nearly a year of following the doctor's treatment regimen and strictly adhering to the training regimen through each stage as well as the nutritional regimen, he has shown positive signs. In the recent friendly match between Nam Dinh team and PVF-CAND youth team, Xuan Son was able to play at the end of the second half and showed great professional effort.

Xuan Son will come back strong

Coach Kim Sang-sik's giving Xuan Son a chance proves that he still has faith in the ability and experience of the striker who has shaken the defenses of strong teams in the region. In the context that Vietnamese strikers have not yet reached their peak performance or have not had a good scoring efficiency, Xuan Son's return is expected to bring a new breeze to the Vietnamese team's attack. The presence of the 2024 AFF Cup top scorer will increase tactical options for Mr. Kim. Xuan Son also hopes to soon return to the Vietnamese team, because he hopes to face the Laos team and especially play against Malaysia in the second leg of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers at the end of March 2026.

It is worth noting that, despite being called up to the Vietnam national team, Xuan Son is still unable to play for Nam Dinh Club in the V-League. The Nam Dinh team only registered Xuan Son for the second phase of the V-League 2025 - 2026, starting from January 25, 2026.
