The program, organized by the Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board under the direction of the Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee, coincided with the first year of the locality operating under a two-tiered government model. This is seen as a milestone demonstrating the proactive and creative role of the local government in preserving and promoting heritage values, connecting heritage with the community and urban life.

The program is scheduled to open at 9:00 AM on Saturday (January 17, 2026) at the Cultural and Arts Center, 22 Hang Buom Street, Hoan Kiem Ward, Hanoi; and will last until the 25th day of the Lunar New Year.

Vietnamese Tet – Street Tet 2026 is designed as a comprehensive series of activities, spanning many typical heritage spaces in the Old Quarter and the Hoan Kiem Lake area. Locals and tourists will not only visit and admire the sights but also directly participate in traditional Tet activities, from rituals and customs to the daily life of Hanoi families of the past.

The Tet (Lunar New Year) atmosphere of the Northern Delta region is vividly recreated through activities such as making banh chung (traditional rice cakes), preparing Tet feasts, decorating houses, ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) fashion shows, folk music performances, introductions to handicrafts and village products, and experiential activities for all ages. Alongside these are art exhibitions, displays, and interactions with artisans and researchers, further enriching the cultural depth of the event.

This year's highlight is the close connection between the historical sites in the Old Quarter and the Tet (Lunar New Year) atmosphere. The historical site at 22 Hang Buom Street was chosen for the first time to recreate the Tet atmosphere and Tet market of the Northern Delta region, evoking images of traditional spring markets in the community's memory. The heritage house at 87 Ma May Street, after restoration, officially reopened to visitors, showcasing the space of a traditional Hanoi family preparing for Tet, from the arrangement of the altar to the daily activities of grandmothers and mothers in their old homes.

The traditional procession and the erection of the ceremonial pole continue to be the central activities of the program. This year's procession starts at O Quan Chuong Gate, creating a highly symbolic route through the old streets and the pedestrian area around Hoan Kiem Lake.

In particular, the appearance of the Horse Riding Club with 15 horses ridden by people, along with wooden horses made by children, signifies the arrival of spring and creates a vibrant connection between generations within the traditional festival space. The ceremony of erecting the New Year's pole at Kim Ngan communal house was chosen as a spiritual highlight, reflecting the depth of belief and traditional Tet customs associated with Hanoi's craft streets.

Through the Vietnamese Tet – Street Tet 2026 program, the Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board affirms its pivotal role in preserving and promoting the value of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The program also aims to educate the younger generation about heritage, linking preservation with tourism development and the creative economy , contributing to enriching the spiritual lives of the people and building the image of Hanoi as a creative city where tradition and modernity blend together in the vibrant colors of spring.
