Formed by merging one town and four communes, Dong Dang commune currently comprises 36 villages, 5,453 households, and over 22,800 inhabitants. The increasing population has led to a growing demand for medical examination, treatment, and healthcare services. In this context, Dong Dang commune recognizes that maintaining healthcare standards is not only a requirement in the new rural development program but also a key task in ensuring social security.
Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong Hue, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Dang commune, said: Right from the start of operation under the new model, the People's Committee of the commune has coordinated with the regional health center to review and reorganize the system of health stations and points to utilize existing facilities, ensuring that people in all areas can access medical services conveniently. Primary healthcare, expanded immunization, disease prevention and control, and management of non-communicable diseases continue to be maintained stably.
The Dong Dang Commune Health Station currently has one main station and four branch stations with a total of 23 staff members, resulting in a significant workload. Dr. Hoang Thi Kim, Director of the Dong Dang Commune Health Station, stated: To overcome difficulties and ensure healthcare for the local population, the station has proactively arranged duty schedules and assigned tasks flexibly; and strengthened coordination with higher-level facilities for professional support. The application of information technology in managing health records has also contributed to reducing workload and improving work efficiency.
To ensure effective medical examination and treatment, the commune's health station has proactively reviewed and reorganized its healthcare network towards a "multi-point - close to the people" approach, with one main station and four branch stations. This helps people in 36 villages, especially those in remote and border areas, access timely medical services. As a result, people have access to healthcare services at the grassroots level, and medical examination and treatment are maintained without interruption. In 2025, the total number of medical examinations and treatments is expected to reach 28,936, exceeding the plan by 127%; in the first four months of 2026 alone, 10,266 visits were recorded, achieving 45.3% of the 2026 plan.
In addition, the health station focuses on effectively managing non-communicable diseases, with 823 patients suffering from hypertension and 147 from diabetes. Maintaining regular medication dispensing and health monitoring helps control diseases and reduce the burden on higher-level facilities. Ms. Sam May Di, 76 years old, from Nam Quan village, shared: "I have been receiving treatment for high blood pressure and diabetes at the station for 4 years. After the commune merger, I still come to the station regularly for check-ups and medication. The staff are busy but still welcome me, provide thorough guidance, and conduct examinations and dispense medication completely."
Preventive healthcare has been implemented systematically, contributing to maintaining the criterion of "preventing major disease outbreaks." From 2025 to the present, dangerous infectious diseases in the area have been well controlled. The vaccination rate is high, with 97.7% of children under 1 year old receiving all basic vaccinations, exceeding the set target (over 95%). This is a key factor in the new rural healthcare criteria in the new phase, where the requirement is not only disease prevention but also sustainable disease prevention.
In addition, the commune health station has focused on implementing comprehensive public health management in conjunction with the application of information technology; conducting examinations, creating medical records, updating and managing data on software. To date, 90% of the population has electronic health records, enabling regular and continuous health monitoring and management.
Thanks to the efforts of the medical staff and the attention of the government, as well as the support of regional health services, Dong Dang commune has been maintaining national standards for healthcare after the merger. This is an important foundation for Dong Dang to continue improving the quality of healthcare for its people, aiming towards building a sustainable new rural area in the coming period.
According to Decision 1102/QD-BYT dated April 21, 2026, of the Ministry of Health on guiding the implementation of some criteria and indicators under the National Criteria Set for New Rural Development in the period 2026-2030 under the management of the Ministry of Health, the health criteria of the commune include: Criterion 5.3 on communes meeting national health criteria; Criterion 5.4 on commune health stations operating under the public service model, ensuring the provision of basic and essential services in disease prevention, primary healthcare, medical examination, treatment, and social care services. |
