A journey back to love

Hastily pushing two suitcases into the sleeping compartment, Truong Duc Manh (from Quang Tri province) pulled out his phone from his bag and called his family. He excitedly informed his relatives that the train was about to depart and he would be reunited with his family tomorrow morning.

Having been away from home for over five years, this is the second year that Mr. Mạnh has returned from Japan to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) in his hometown. He said that due to his busy work schedule, he only arrived in Hanoi this afternoon (the 29th of the 12th lunar month) and is now taking a train home. Although he won't be able to celebrate New Year's Eve with his family, there's something special that warms his heart: he's on the "Happiness Train."

Mr. Mạnh felt very emotional on the "Happy Train" returning home after many years away from his hometown.

"Knowing I would be traveling on the 'Happy Train' today made me very happy. The name of the train evoked a strong sense of nostalgia in me. From the beautiful decorations and cozy atmosphere to the paintings depicting images of Vietnam, it deeply moved someone like me who has been away from home for many years, making me even more eager to reunite with my parents and relatives," Mạnh shared.

Warmth and happiness were the feelings of Hong and her daughter on the special train journey on New Year's Eve.

Sharing the same sentiment, Ms. Vuong Thuy Hong (from Ninh Binh province) felt that the journey home for Tet (Lunar New Year) for her and her daughter became even warmer. Because her daughter was sick, the two of them only managed to board the train home tonight.

"This is something very special to me. I've never been on a train on New Year's Eve before. But knowing that this is a train named 'Happiness,' with such a cozy atmosphere and receiving good wishes and lucky red envelopes, I was very moved," Ms. Hong confided.

For Mr. Vu Duc Dung (from Ninh Binh province), this is not the first time his family has traveled by train on New Year's Eve to return home for Tet. He said that because his business usually closes on the last day of the year, he chose the train instead of his personal car to ensure safety and provide a fun experience for his children.

"Although we've traveled by train for many years, this is probably the most memorable experience for us. The train was beautifully decorated, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. When I learned that the train's name was 'The Happy Train' and that it carried such a humane meaning, I was truly impressed. Even though the journey home was quite long, I felt like the distance was shorter. And most importantly, for me, where family is, there is love," Mr. Dung expressed.

A humanitarian journey to welcome the new spring.

From February 2nd, 2026, the "Happy Train" program, a collaboration between Nhan Dan Newspaper, Vietnam Railways Corporation, and Coteccons Construction Joint Stock Company, officially commenced operations from Hanoi Station. This program carries profound humanitarian significance, aiming to spread compassion, inspire national pride and faith, and promote the image of Vietnam and its people.

"The 'Happy Train' project is being implemented by Nhan Dan Newspaper in collaboration with Vietnam Railways Corporation and Coteccons Construction Joint Stock Company, starting from February 2, 2026."

This is the culmination of the social responsibility and aspiration of the Nhan Dan Newspaper and the Vietnam Railway industry in connecting communities and linking regions across Vietnam.

Tonight, the "Happy Train" continues its journey on New Year's Eve of the Year of the Horse, becoming a space for gatherings, where passengers exchange New Year's wishes, joy, and share moments.
