Coach Nguyen Hong Pham shared: "I was very moved when I heard that Tieu Gia was seriously ill. Many friends and teammates participated in the match. Everyone shared the same wish that Tieu Gia would overcome his near-death illness.
On behalf of Ho Van Loi's brothers, friends and former teammates at Saigon Port Club, I would like to thank everyone for joining in and accompanying him in the long-term fight against Tieu Gia's illness during the past time and at this time."
The genius of Saigon football
Ho Van Loi (alias Tieu Gia) was born in 1970 in Hue in a family passionate about football, with an older brother, Ho Van Tam, also playing as a central defender for Saigon Port Club. As a child, he often followed his brother to watch the team's training sessions and matches, nurturing his dream of playing for the national team.

Ho Van Loi is considered a unique and talented football player in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Van Loi is one of the best players in the golden generation of Saigon Port Club led by the late legendary coach Pham Huynh Tam Lang.
During his memorable career, Ho Van Loi helped Saigon Port win the National Cup twice in 1992 and 2000; before being crowned the National Championship in 1994, 1997 and 2001-2002 (winning the Golden Boot with 9 goals).
He is also the rare Vietnamese player to win the title of Top Scorer in V-League history. It was not until 15 years later that Anh Duc surpassed foreign players to win this title in the 2017 season.

Ho Van Loi’s biggest regret is probably that he has never played for the Vietnamese national team in an official tournament like the SEA Games or the Tiger Cup (now the ASEAN Cup). All three times he was called up by coaches Murphy, Riedl and Calisto, he was unable to participate at the last minute.
It is known that the fundraising activities all come from the special feelings of former players and friends near and far who have affection for Ho Van Loi. The results of the fundraising were agreed to be kept to focus on the treatment of this famous player.
