Shifting its investment attraction strategy, building a development strategy based on high-tech and cutting-edge industries, and exploiting new growth drivers are the solutions that Dong Nai is currently implementing.

Tapping into new growth drivers

Reporting at the working session of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee with the Provincial Party Standing Committee on January 10th, Ms. Truong Thi Huong Binh, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Director of the Department of Finance, stated: Along with traditional growth drivers such as promoting public investment disbursement, production, consumption, and exports, Dong Nai province has identified the Long Thanh Airport City, the Dong Nai River urban corridor, the Hoa Lu border gate economic zone, and the expressway and urban railway systems as key drivers for socio-economic development. The driving role of Long Thanh International Airport and the province's industrial development drivers will be a new growth pole.

Specifically, the province will develop a chain of value-added services surrounding the airport, including: aviation logistics, distribution centers, free trade, financial and banking services, hotels, conference facilities, and smart cities, with close links to Ho Chi Minh City.

Furthermore, the nearly 7,500-hectare free trade zone will promote the development of high-tech industries, supporting industries, and strengthen Dong Nai's role in the global supply chain. In addition, the Hoa Lu Border Economic Zone will continue to develop, creating new momentum in the northern part of the province, boosting border trade, logistics services, agricultural and forestry product processing, and connecting international trade via the Northwest route.

According to Dong Nai's technology innovation roadmap to 2035, the 2026-2027 period will focus on capacity building and digital transformation; the 2028-2030 period will shift towards innovation and the application of high technology; and after 2030, there will be a period of comprehensive evaluation of implementation results and adjustments to the roadmap for the following period.

These three driving forces will combine to form the foundation for Dong Nai to transform its growth model from a traditional industrial province to a center for high-tech industries, international logistics, free trade, and aviation services, contributing to the rapid and sustainable socio-economic development of the province in the period 2026-2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to Mr. Tran Thoang, Director of CT - Strategies Vietnam (based in Da Nang City), Dong Nai has many advantages to become a major technology manufacturing center of the country and the region. In particular, the Long Thanh Free Trade Zone could become a center for the production and export of deeply processed industrial products, electronic components, and consumer goods to markets in the ASEAN region. If implemented successfully, this will be an attractive destination for international businesses wanting to build production and export facilities.

Attracting key economic sectors.

Dong Nai has large-scale and rapidly developing industries. Currently, the province is shifting from supporting and mixed industries to key industrial sectors to align with new development trends and the province's goals.

According to experts, with the advantage of having the largest international airport in Vietnam, a multimodal transportation network, and a strong industrial base, Dong Nai's industrial sector can focus on developing three key product groups in its new phase: aviation industry, automation equipment, and information technology equipment. These key products will be established and supported by a modern industrial ecosystem, with core sectors including: machinery and precision engineering; electrical and electronics; transportation; chemicals; and food processing.

To move towards a new era of development, on January 7, 2026, the Provincial People's Committee issued a Plan for Building a Roadmap for Technological Innovation until 2035 for Key Economic Sectors, identifying core technologies that can create breakthroughs, domestic and international market demand, and Dong Nai province's ability to access technology.

The plan aims to restructure key economic sectors towards improving productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness, based on science, technology, and innovation. It identifies strategic technologies with the potential to create breakthroughs and have a high ripple effect in the province's key industries. Accordingly, the province will develop key sectors such as: artificial intelligence; biotechnology; renewable energy and green technology; semiconductor and microchip technology; manufacturing and processing technology; high-tech agriculture, etc. The goal is to gradually develop and implement core technologies, enhance the technological innovation capacity of businesses, and increase the value-added ratio in each sector.

According to Mr. Phan Phong Phu, Chairman of the Board and General Director of Viet Sin Energy Group Joint Stock Company (Viet Sin Energy Group, based in Ho Chi Minh City), Viet Sin Energy Group aims to become one of the leading renewable energy groups in Vietnam. Dong Nai has great potential for investment in the renewable energy sector, making it one of the localities that the company is very interested in, seeking investment opportunities to contribute to the province's development of green industries, using green fuels and energy in production.
