Digital Agriculture : From Data to Traceability

Dong Nai currently has more than 171,000 hectares of perennial crops, focusing on fruit trees and industrial crops. The province has formed more than 320 concentrated production areas, with an area of nearly 96,000 hectares, and 203 growing area codes for export to the US, Europe, Australia, China, etc.

Issuing growing area codes helps farmers closely control the process, from seeds, fertilizers, to harvesting.

The issuance of growing area codes helps farmers closely control the process, from seeds, fertilizers, to harvesting. Each exported product is attached with a digital "passport", increasing reliability and prestige. Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, owner of a mango garden in Xuan Loc, shared: "Previously, mangoes were sold mainly to traders, with little attention paid to paperwork. Now with growing area codes, products are guaranteed, and prices are 20-30% higher."

In livestock farming, the province maintains 4 district-level disease-free zones and 44 commune-level zones for avian influenza. 65% of the total pig herd and 49% of the chicken herd are raised using high technology; 27.5% of farms use cold barns. Since 2020, Dong Nai has deployed Te-Food software to manage farms and trace animal origins.

To date, there are more than 1,758 farms registered on the system, along with 1,187 establishments such as supermarkets, stores, and collective kitchens participating. In the first 5 months of 2025 alone, more than 121,000 pigs have had their origins traced. This is a big step forward, helping consumers feel secure about quality, while also supporting disease management.

Digital technology for fields and ponds

Digital applications do not stop at data, but are present in production. The whole province has more than 70,000 hectares of crops applying water-saving irrigation systems, many models use smartphones to control irrigation and fertilization remotely. IoT technology helps monitor the growing environment, warn of pests and diseases, and automatically adjust the nutritional regime for plants.

In aquaculture, high-tech brackish water shrimp farming models are being deployed. Shrimp are raised in tarpaulin-lined ponds with automatic monitoring systems, temperature, oxygen, and water source control. Combined with electronic diaries, farmers can easily manage quality, reduce antibiotic costs, and increase productivity.

Mr. Le Van Hai, a shrimp farmer in Nhon Trach, said: "We were trained to use pond management software. On the phone, we can monitor temperature, salinity, and alkalinity. If there is a warning, we will handle it immediately. A few years ago, we would not have dared to think about this."

At the same time, Dong Nai is promoting the construction of digital government, providing level 4 online public services. People can carry out business registration, land registration, and construction permit procedures right on the electronic portal without having to go to administrative agencies.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang emphasized: "Research, transfer of science and technology applications and digital transformation are important breakthroughs to improve the efficiency of state management and reduce inconvenience for people and businesses."

From 2021 to now, the Provincial People's Committee has approved 92 science and technology tasks, an increase of nearly 77% compared to the previous period. Of which, 35.5% focused on industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of farming households were trained in digital skills, bringing products to e-commerce platforms.

Agricultural fairs, such as the Long Khanh Fruit Fair, have become places where consumers scan QR codes to trace the origin right at the booth. This is a typical image of the connection between digital government, digital agriculture and the market.

Breakthrough for rural digital economy

Dong Nai is focusing on building a smart, precise agricultural model: monitoring forest fires by satellite; livestock management software; a crop environment monitoring system integrated with automatic irrigation and fertilization; online consulting and training for farmers.

In particular, supporting farmers and cooperatives to participate in e-commerce is considered a key task. When products are put on the market, the market is no longer limited to the local area. Consumers from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City can directly buy Dong Nai specialties with just a few operations on the phone.

According to the report, the value of high-tech agricultural products of the province has reached more than 38 trillion VND, accounting for over 51% of the value of key products.

From farm digital data, growing area codes, animal traceability software, to online public services, Dong Nai has painted a comprehensive picture of rural digital transformation. Farmers, cooperatives and businesses participate together, the government accompanies, technology becomes a bridge between production and the market./.
