Green fields, clean environment

Recently, images of fields "clean" of pesticide packaging have become increasingly common in the province. Most pesticide bottles and plastic bags are now collected in centralized storage tanks. This noticeable change reflects a significant shift in people's awareness and actions regarding rural environmental protection.

In mid-January 2026, in the flower fields of Tuc Tien residential area, Phan Dinh Phung ward, many flower plots had begun to enter the stage of hardening the plants. This is the time when flower growers focus on fertilizing with phosphorus and potassium and spraying pesticides to prevent pests and diseases so that the flowers bloom in time for the Lunar New Year. Walking around the flower fields, we did not find any discarded pesticide bottles or packaging.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tien, from Tuc Tien residential area, shared: "Environmental pollution in agricultural production directly affects farmers themselves. Recognizing this, people have developed the habit of collecting pesticide packaging after use, instead of discarding it indiscriminately as before."

In Yen Trach commune, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, head of Lang hamlet, said: "Previously, the practice of discarding pesticide containers directly in rice, corn, and vegetable fields was quite common. This situation detracts from the aesthetics of the fields and poses a potential long-term risk to soil quality, water sources, and public health."

The main reasons were the lack of a centralized collection point and limited public awareness of the harmful effects of pesticide residue in packaging. Currently, with conveniently located storage tanks and regular public awareness campaigns, people are proactively collecting and disposing of pesticide packaging in designated areas.

Recognizing the importance of collecting and disposing of used pesticide packaging, since 2010, Thai Nguyen province has implemented regulations requiring people to collect packaging and bring it to designated locations for processing. This is coupled with the implementation of guidelines from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on the collection, transportation, and disposal of used pesticide packaging.

Improved environmental landscapes have become a significant advantage, contributing to making many localities attractive destinations for tourists.
Improved environmental landscapes have become a significant advantage, contributing to making many localities attractive destinations for tourists.

To date, localities in the province have built and installed hundreds of specialized storage tanks along rural roads and in concentrated agricultural production areas, creating favorable conditions for people to comply with regulations.

Along with infrastructure investment, localities are focusing on promoting the role of mass organizations in propaganda and implementation, establishing collection teams at the grassroots level. From initial mobilization activities, many places have formed practical environmental protection models such as the "Clean Fields Without Pesticide Packaging" model, gradually becoming a regular practice.

Local authorities simultaneously directed the organization of regular weekly or monthly collection, linked with inspection and monitoring in production areas. Extensive public awareness campaigns were conducted, tailored to different target groups, helping people understand the meaning and importance of properly collecting and disposing of pesticide packaging.

In practice, the collection of pesticide packaging in Thai Nguyen is the result of a long process, starting with raising awareness, campaigning, forming habits, and strictly enforcing regulations.

The concerted efforts of the government, organizations, and the people have brought about significant changes, evident in the amount of waste collected annually, the increasingly improved waste storage system, and the spread of civilized lifestyles in agricultural production. This is an important foundation contributing to the construction of a green, clean, beautiful, and sustainable new rural area.
