Dong Thap: Strengthening communication on preventing and combating IUU fishing

(DTO) On December 1, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province issued a Communication Plan to prevent and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing for the period 2025 - 2030 in Dong Thap province.

Fish are transported to My Tho Fishing Port, preparing to be transported to consumer markets.

According to the plan, during the peak period of 2025, the province will focus on communicating about institutions, legal policies, information on direction and operation; some positive results in managing and supervising fleets, tracing the origin of aquatic products from exploitation; converting people's occupations and livelihoods associated with conservation, aquaculture, exploitation, and sustainable use of aquatic resources; positive results in law enforcement and handling of administrative violations...

In the 2026 - 2030 period, the province will focus on communicating the results of transformation, sustainable development, livelihood transformation and efforts to change fishermen's jobs to reduce fishing intensity and prevent IUU fishing.

In addition, communication on law enforcement against IUU fishing and integration of the fisheries industry with international standards helps Vietnam enhance its reputation in seafood exports; the role of fisheries control forces in monitoring, inspecting, handling violations and protecting aquatic resources; guiding fishermen and businesses to properly implement regulations on fishing vessel registration, logging of fishing activities, and tracing the origin of products to contribute to preventing and combating IUU fishing.

At the same time, popularize policies to support fishermen and businesses to properly implement the provisions of the Fisheries Law and guiding documents, ensure compliance with international standards and enhance the value of Vietnamese seafood products in the market.

Along with that is communication about the role and benefits of negotiating, signing and implementing international treaties to promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation, expand export markets and improve the effectiveness of fisheries management, protect aquatic resources, and combat IUU fishing...
