VIDEO : Traffic congestion at the city's gateways, but much easier to breathe in the inner city on the last working day morning.

On the morning of February 13th (the 26th day of the 12th lunar month), even before the end of the workday, crowds of people began flocking to the southern gateways of Hanoi to return to their hometowns for Tet (Lunar New Year).

Vehicles are stuck on the elevated section of Ring Road 3, inching forward meter by meter to leave the southern gateway of the capital.

Not only the elevated areas, but also the lower-level roads like Nguyen Xien are facing difficulties due to the excessive volume of traffic converging on the gateway.

Suitcases and bulky goods loaded onto vehicles leaving the city – a familiar sight on the last working day before the Tet holiday.

"I'm afraid the traffic will be even heavier tomorrow, so I asked to leave early to avoid the hassle. Although it was quite crowded this morning, it was still easier than the days leading up to Tet," shared Thu Nguyet ( Ninh Binh ).

The closer to the Nuoc Ngam bus station, the greater the traffic pressure. Observations on Hoang Liet street at 9 am this morning showed vehicles of all kinds crammed together, inching forward slowly with no space left between them.

On the Ngoc Hoi road leading to the old National Highway 1A, traffic is extremely congested. Motorcyclists have to struggle to weave through the gaps between cars to find a way to move forward.

Traffic volume surged dramatically at the southern gateway, the area under the greatest pressure as people simultaneously left the city to return to their hometowns for Tet (Lunar New Year).

Hanoi traffic police are making efforts to manage and regulate traffic at key intersections leading to the capital's gateways.

In contrast to the congestion at the city's gateways, the roads leading into the city center are relatively smooth, with traffic flowing easily.

According to forecasts, the period from this afternoon until the end of tomorrow (December 27th in the lunar calendar) will be the peak of the wave of people leaving the city to return to their hometowns for Tet. Traffic pressure at the gateways to the capital is expected to increase sharply, and authorities advise people to proactively plan their routes accordingly.
