The golden shower tree-lined road in Phuoc Hiep hamlet was resplendent with yellow blossoms in 2024.
In 2024, along both sides of the Phuoc Hiep - Bau Dai inter-hamlet road (formerly Phuoc Ninh commune, Duong Minh Chau district, Tay Ninh province; now Cau Khoi commune, Tay Ninh province), there were hundreds of yellow cassia trees blooming profusely, a source of pride for the local people and a favorite check-in spot for many tourists from near and far.
Nowadays, returning to this famous flower-lined road, many of the cassia trees no longer shimmer with vibrant blossoms in the morning sun. Instead, we see many charred trunks, dry branches, and bare blossoms. Many bird nests on the branches also show no signs of life.
Withered branches and leaves of the cassia tree jut out along the roadside. In some places, there are signs that local residents dumped household waste and animal bones at the base of the cassia trees, which were then set on fire.

The road lined with yellow jasmine flowers in Phuoc Hiep hamlet, Cau Khoi commune, was scorched by fire.
According to Truong Thanh Toan, head of the Phuoc Hiep hamlet's Front Committee and a key contributor to the planting and care of the cassia flower road in the area, the incident occurred because some farmers recently burned their fields for cultivation and carelessly allowed the fire to spread to the dry grass along the roadside, causing many cassia trees to be scorched.

Many bird nests on the branches of the cassia tree also showed no signs of life.
Mr. Toan hopes that the scorched cassia trees can revive in the near future. However, according to some people, the chances of recovery for the severely damaged trees are very low.

Growing tall, straight rows of cassia trees with vibrant yellow flowers is no easy feat. Growers must spend considerable money on seedlings and fertilizers, and also invest a lot of effort in watering, weeding, and pruning annually.

Underneath the cassia tree, there is still a layer of dry undergrowth, which easily catches fire.
In the communes of Cau Khoi and Duong Minh Chau in Tay Ninh province, there are still some roads lined with cassia trees planted since 2020. These communes are also in the process of clearing fields to prepare for planting the winter-spring cassava crop. Underneath the rows of cassia trees lies a layer of dry undergrowth that easily catches fire. Farmers need to be extremely cautious when burning fields to clear land, avoiding the spread of fire that could damage the ornamental plants along the roadsides.

There are still some beautiful roads lined with yellow cassia flowers, but farmers need to be very careful when burning fields for cultivation to avoid damaging the ornamental plants along the roadside.
With its broad canopy and vibrant yellow flowers, the cassia tree has many uses, including beautifying the landscape, providing shade, purifying the air, reducing noise, and preventing soil erosion. This tree also holds feng shui significance, symbolizing good fortune, wealth, and unity.
