The project of the road leading to Ha Tien General Port was approved by the People's Committee of Ha Tien city before the merger under Decision No. 4687/QD-UBND, dated December 12, 2024 and started construction on June 22, 2025. The project has a total investment of VND 1,177 billion, from the central budget and local budget.

The total length of the project is 4,890m, of which phase 1 includes the construction of a 1,800m long sea encroachment road, with a cross-section of 4 lanes for motor vehicles, a total road width of 15m, and 5m sidewalks on each side; the seaward bridge is about 240m long. The phase 2 sea encroachment road is 2,850m long. The main road is designed according to TCVN 4054:2005 standards, with a design speed of 80km/h, equivalent to a level III plain road, and is equipped with wave-prevention walls.

According to Chairman of Ha Tien Ward People's Committee Tran Hai Quoc, the road project leading to Ha Tien General Port is carried out according to the general planning of Ha Tien City in Decision No. 189/QD-TTg, dated February 22, 2024 of the Prime Minister . The general port is located about 6km from the mainland, between Ha Tien and Tien Hai island commune. This is a very important project in implementing the task of building and developing the infrastructure of Ha Tien Ward.

The project will create a driving force for the development of a port area combined with a tourism , service and accommodation area in the western sea of Ha Tien. At the same time, it will be a bridge for transporting goods and passengers from Ha Tien to islands in the region, provinces and cities in the country as well as neighboring countries such as Cambodia, Thailand...

When completed, in addition to receiving high-speed boats and ferries, the general port will receive more cargo ships with a capacity of less than 5,000 tons, linking the economic development of the border gate with neighboring Cambodia. Along with that, a chain of artificial islands will be formed in the Ha Tien sea area. In the planning orientation of the ward, the development of artificial island chains combined with residential areas and tourism services will create a great driving force to help develop the socio-economy for Ha Tien in particular and An Giang province in general.

Identified as a key strategic project, the investor and contractors are resolutely completing the project items. At the construction site, construction units are mobilizing maximum human resources and machinery, operating continuously at high intensity, ensuring both progress and technical requirements, labor safety and project quality.

Not only racing against time, engineers and workers also strictly follow the quality control process, regularly monitor the site, and promptly handle any arising situations. All have the same goal of completing the project on schedule, meeting Ha Tien's expectations of a strategic connection axis to the general port in the new development phase.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen, Deputy Director of the Ha Tien Ward Construction Investment Project Management Board, said: "Up to now, the project has been implemented smoothly, without any difficulties or problems. The units are focusing on human resources and resources to speed up the construction progress, striving to complete it before the contract signing date."

According to the People's Committee of Ha Tien Ward, up to this point, contractors have completed about 800m of construction, the progress of phase 1 of the project has reached about 15%. Units continue to construct the items of the access road combined with the embankment with rubble, the bridge item with a length of 220m.

With the progress of the contractors, it is expected that the project will complete phase 1 by early 2027. At the same time, in 2026, the People's Committee of Ha Tien ward proposed that the province allocate funds to implement phase 2 with a total length of 2,850m.

There is currently some information on social networks claiming that Vietnam is implementing a project to build a sea route connecting Tien Hai island commune with Phu Quoc, violating the 1982 Agreement on Historical Waters between Cambodia and Vietnam.

Regarding the above information, Chairman of Ha Tien Ward People's Committee Tran Hai Quoc affirmed: "The information posted on social networks recently about the project of the road leading to Ha Tien General Port connecting to Tien Hai and Phu Quoc is incorrect. In fact, the project of the road leading to Ha Tien General Port is 3.7km from the nearest historical water area; about 5.7km from landmark 314 on land. The project is located entirely on Vietnam's sovereignty. This is a project of the road leading to the general port, the port is located between Ha Tien and Tien Hai island commune. After the project is formed, it will be about 5km from Tien Hai island commune."
