Yesterday afternoon (July 19), some provinces and cities in the Northern region had very heavy rain and strong gusts of wind. Thanh Hoa was also one of the provinces and cities experiencing heavy to very heavy rain, strong gusts of wind, and storms that knocked down trees, damaged people's houses, and caused traffic jams on some roads.
Explaining the cause of heavy rain and very strong winds, Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said it was not yet affected by storm No. 3 Wipha.
"Storm No. 3 is still far away. The cause of heavy rain and strong winds is due to a low trough with an axis across the Northern region, this afternoon there will be convergence of thunderstorms along the low trough" - Mr. Khiem explained. However, the Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned that storm No. 3 is forecast to be very dangerous, with strong winds and very heavy rain.
Many roads in Thanh Hoa were partially flooded after heavy rain on the evening of July 19.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the scope of influence of storm No. 3 Wipha is wide, affecting most of the Northeast region, some places in the Northwest, and the North Central provinces.
The storm is forecast to directly affect the provinces of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong , and coastal provinces of Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, and Thanh Hoa. These provinces are forecast to be most severely affected by the storm.
Storm No. 3 is forecast to cause widespread heavy rain in the North and Thanh Hoa - Ha Tinh provinces; in which, in the midlands and the Northern Delta, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, the rain time is from July 21 to 24. Some places will have localized heavy rain with rainfall of over 150 mm/3 hours.
In the coming days, people in the Northern provinces need to pay attention to the appearance of thunderstorms and lightning to prevent and reduce unexpected risks.
