On November 26, before checking out of a hotel in Tuan Chau, Ha Long, German tourist Andreas Scholz left an envelope containing 10 million VND along with a handwritten letter. He asked the hotel owner to use this money to buy rice to support Vietnamese people affected by natural disasters and floods.
This action was immediately followed by the hotel owner, Ms. Hai. The entire amount was used to buy 830 kg of rice and delivered to a relief team in the flood area under the name of Mr. Andreas Scholz.
Letter and unexpected action
In the letter, Mr. Andreas Scholz (often called Andy) said that he had been following the news and seen many pictures of the consequences of natural disasters in Vietnam. He expressed his deep sympathy for the losses that people are suffering.
"I believe you can help me do this. I love Vietnam and the friendly, kind people here. I hope I can help in some way," Mr. Andy wrote in the letter.

Ms. Hai shared that she was very surprised because during the three days of her stay, Mr. Andy did not mention the flood situation. She said that the German tourist's affection was truly precious, because he was just a visitor and did not live in Vietnam.
The heart of a person who loves Vietnam
Andy, a German engineer, said he often does charity work in his home country and wants to share with those who need help more than himself. This is his second visit to Vietnam. His first trip in December last year left him with many good impressions of the landscapes and people in Sa Pa, Ninh Binh, Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An.
During this trip, while in Ha Long, he updated the media on the serious storm and flood situation in the southern provinces. "Seeing people sitting on rooftops waiting for rescue, I thought I needed to do something. At that time, I felt like I was a part of this country," Mr. Andy shared.

Mr. Andy's story has been widely shared on social networks, receiving many thanks and respect from the community.
Severe flood situation
According to statistics as of November 26, floods in the South Central region have caused severe damage. 98 people died, 426 houses collapsed and nearly 2,100 houses were damaged, mainly in Dak Lak, Gia Lai and Khanh Hoa provinces. Economic losses are estimated at more than VND13,000 billion.
This is not the first time international tourists have shown their sympathy for the Vietnamese people in times of trouble. Previously, in October, a group of tourists from Colombia, the Netherlands and the US also directly participated in cleaning and repairing houses to help people in Tuyen Quang and Thai Nguyen overcome the consequences of the storm.
