According to Mr. Nguyen, he booked a tour online with a man named Ky (living in Phu Quy island district) and was handed over to a travel company to visit the island.

Upon arriving at the island, due to unfavorable weather, the government temporarily stopped coral diving or SUP boating tours on Hon Tranh Island, so Mr. Nguyen proactively contacted the company that organized the activities to take tourists to shorten the trip to 3 days (instead of 5 days), without the guidance of tour guide Ky. From there, a conflict arose and the tour guide demanded half of the amount that the tourists had agreed to pay, which was 750,000 VND.

Mr. Nguyen then agreed and asked the tour company to pay 750,000 VND to tour guide Ky. However, because the transfer of money was slow according to Ky's request, this tour guide went to find the tourist to ask for money and led to a fight. As a result, Mr. Trang Bao Nguyen was attacked by tour guide Ky and some people, resulting in facial injuries (face lacerations).

Mr. Nguyen affirmed that he was not at fault for the 750,000 VND because the company had already refunded Mr. Ky, so he did not need to meet him again. But this tour guide was "indignant" and went to find the tourist to "ask for the truth".

Immediately after receiving the above information from the tourist, Thanh Nien reporters transferred the data and images to Lieutenant Colonel Phan Ho Bac, Chief of Police of Phu Quy Island District. On the afternoon of July 16, Lieutenant Colonel Bac immediately checked and responded to the information.

According to Phu Quy Island District Police, after Trang Bao Nguyen was injured, they invited all parties to come together to reconcile and asked tour guide Ky to "compensate for the tourist's medicine".

Text messages exchanged between tourists and tour guides on the island show that Mr. Bao Nguyen paid 750,000 VND to the tour guide.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Bac, during a meeting with the police at the Long Hai Commune Police Headquarters, tour guide Ky admitted that the tour company on the island had returned 750,000 VND but did not know. "This tour guide said that when he stopped the tourist to ask questions, he was attacked first. After that, a fight broke out and this tour guide beat the tourist Trang Bao Nguyen as shown in the photo provided by the reporter."

Meanwhile, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Nguyen continued to affirm that he did not hit the tour guide first as he claimed.

According to the tourist, the text messages between him and the tour guide proved that he was not at fault as he had already paid the full amount.

"They stopped me in the middle of the road on the evening of July 15, not only Mr. Ky but also many others, there were other tourists who witnessed for me. I think it was my first time traveling to this island and I was traveling alone, how could I dare to hit a local tour guide?" - Mr. Nguyen explained.

Lieutenant Colonel Phan Ho Bac affirmed that there was a "misunderstanding" between tourists and tour guides in civil relations when leading visitors on the island.

"However, no matter what, tour guides are not allowed to hit tourists, affecting the tourism image of the locality, affecting the community culture of the islanders who are gentle and hospitable. We will strictly handle acts of attacking tourists to rectify tour guiding activities on the island in an orderly and legal manner," said Lieutenant Colonel Phan Ho Bac.

"We will direct the strict handling of this incident, not to let it happen again, if it is serious, we may ban this tour guide from guiding tourists" - Mr. Vinh said.
