Ho Chi Minh City is expected to build more than 194,000 social housing units.

According to the draft Resolution on some special mechanisms to handle difficulties in developing social housing that is being consulted by the Ministry of Construction , in the next 5 years, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to be assigned to build nearly 194,300 social housing units, the highest level in the country.

After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City was assigned to develop nearly 2.8 times more social housing than before. The whole country is expected to have 38,600 more units by the end of this year, equivalent to 89% of the target.

In addition to the targets for each locality, the Ministry of Construction also proposed priority criteria for social housing investors, including financial capacity, experience in implementing housing projects, and commitment to reasonable prices and construction quality warranty.

In the draft, the Ministry also proposed 5 special mechanisms to handle difficulties in developing social housing. In particular, if investors propose projects on land that is not in accordance with the planning or not included in the housing development plan, the Department of Construction will report and submit to the Provincial People's Committee to decide on land use quotas and other requirements.

In the first 9 months of the year, the whole country completed more than 50,600 social housing units and is expected to have 38,600 more units by the end of this year, equivalent to 89% of the target. Since the implementation of the project to build at least 1 million social housing units, 165 projects have been completed with 116,342 units, 151 projects have been started with 132,616 units under construction. 380 projects have been approved for investment with a scale of 388,090 units.
