
Statistics show that in the first 6 months of the year, there were nearly 4.6 million visitors to Quang Nam , of which 2.4 million came to Hoi An. These are relative statistics because in reality the number of visitors to Hoi An may be larger and the proportion of visitors to Hoi An in the total number of visitors to Quang Nam will be much higher.
Within Hoi An, there is also a large differentiation in visitor density between the main destinations. Of which, visitors mainly flock to 3 destinations: Hoi An Ancient Town (nearly 1 million visitors), Bay Mau Coconut Forest (about 568 thousand visitors) and Thanh Ha Pottery Village (about 311 thousand visitors).
Furthermore, these are only statistics from visitors who bought tickets. In reality, Hoi An welcomes a large number of visitors every day, but it is very difficult to count, especially in the old town.

Mr. Nguyen Van Son - Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee acknowledged that although many solutions have been implemented, controlling entrance tickets in Hoi An ancient town is still quite difficult.
“From dusk to night, in the old quarter, you only see people and no more heritage landscapes. This is a reality that the locality is very concerned about and is still looking for solutions to improve,” said Mr. Son.
According to the assessment of the Vietnam Tourism Development Index, Quang Nam tourism is rated low in terms of geographically distributed tourism activity index and especially tourist density at the destination when it is rated below the national average.
Mr. Truong Nam Thang - senior expert on marketing and sustainable tourism policy of the Swiss Sustainable Tourism Program, said: "The distribution of tourists in Quang Nam is unbalanced when a large number of tourists are concentrated in Hoi An. That is why in recent years, Quang Nam has been very eager to expand tourism activities to the west and south."
However, it is not easy to spread out the number of visitors to improve the imbalance in the distribution of visitors in the province. In recent times, only a few private destinations have contributed to attracting tourists such as Vinwonders Nam Hoi An (Thang Binh) or Dong Giang Heaven Gate Eco-tourism Area.
In addition, even in destinations very close to Hoi An such as eco-tourism villages, communities in Dien Ban or Duy Xuyen are still struggling to share visitors with Hoi An.
Mr. Pham Vu Dung - Director of Hoa Hong Tourism Service Company Limited said that tourism potential is available almost everywhere in Quang Nam, the important thing is to design products with unique characteristics for travel agencies and tourists to accept.
“It is necessary to create more favorable conditions and environments for investors, local business communities and especially start-up and creative models to create new and attractive products that form the unique strengths of each region and locality, thereby connecting to the regional tourism chain,” Mr. Dung suggested.
