Vietnam tourism sets new record - welcoming over 19 million international visitors

According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance) announced on the morning of December 6, in the first 11 months of 2025, the total number of international visitors to Vietnam reached over 19.1 million, an increase of 20.9% over the same period last year, this is a record high number ever, surpassing the figure of 18 million in the whole year of 2019 - the time before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In November 2025 alone, Vietnam welcomed nearly 2 million international visitors, an increase of 14.2% compared to the previous month and an increase of 15.6% compared to the same period in 2024. This is the month with the third highest number of international visitors since the beginning of the year (January and March reached over 2 million). Notably, November 2025 witnessed strong growth from North American markets, of which the US increased by 30.5% compared to the previous month, Canada increased by 55.9%. Meanwhile, Europe achieved an impressive growth of 51.2% compared to the previous month, in which Russia recorded an increase of 37.0%, UK (+31.8%), France (+46.7%), Germany (+51.4%), Italy (+88.9%), Switzerland (+47.3%), Czech Republic (+148.8%), Poland (+255.6%)... The strong growth of North America and Europe in November reflects the trend of attracting visitors from distant markets to Vietnam during the peak season at the end of the year.

In total, in 11 months, Vietnam welcomed 19.15 million international visitors, surpassing the 18 million mark for the first time in 2019. According to the latest report from the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), the recovery of Vietnam's tourism is particularly impressive in the context that the Asia -Pacific region has only recovered 90% compared to the time before the Covid-19 pandemic. UN Tourism assessed that the growth rate of Vietnam's tourism is among the highest in the world, along with Japan.

In terms of market size , China continues to be Vietnam's largest tourist market in the first 11 months of 2025 with nearly 4.8 million arrivals (accounting for 25.0%). South Korea ranked second, reaching over 3.9 million arrivals (accounting for 20.6%). Taiwan ranked third (1.1 million arrivals), and the US ranked fourth (766,000 arrivals).

Vietnam's top 10 markets also include Japan (754 thousand arrivals), India (656 thousand arrivals), Cambodia (614 thousand arrivals), Russia (593 thousand arrivals), Malaysia (510 thousand arrivals) and Australia (496 thousand arrivals).

In terms of growth drivers , in the first 11 months of 2025, the Chinese market increased sharply by 43.1% compared to the same period in 2024. Japan and the US increased well (+15.0% and +8.4%). The Korean market decreased slightly (-4.6%). Nearby markets in the Southeast Asian region grew strongly, including the Philippines (+84.0%), Cambodia (+48.5%), Laos (+30.5%); Malaysia (+15.7%), Indonesia (+13.8%), Singapore (12.9%), Thailand (+10.0%). The Indian market achieved a high increase of 47.2% and Australia increased well by 12.8% compared to the same period last year.

European markets continued to grow well, showing the effectiveness of the visa exemption policy to Vietnam, including: UK (+20.7%), France (+21.4%), Germany (+16.6%), Italy (+21.3%), Spain (+5.8%), Denmark (+12.1%), Sweden (+15.9%), Norway (+19.6%). In addition, Poland increased by 41.7%, Switzerland increased by 17.1% and the Czech Republic increased by 0.1% compared to the same period in 2024.

In particular, the number of Russian visitors reached 593 thousand arrivals, an increase of 190.9% over the same period last year, affirming Vietnam's position as the largest market in Europe and also the market with the highest growth rate in this region.

This impressive result is thanks to favorable visa policies, enhanced tourism promotion programs, and the organization of large-scale events in many localities that have attracted a large number of international visitors to Vietnam.

According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first 11 months of 2025 is estimated at VND 767.8 trillion, accounting for 12.0% of total retail sales of goods and consumer services revenue and increasing by 14.6% over the same period last year. Revenue in the first 11 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year of some localities is as follows: Ho Chi Minh City increased by 17.3%; Da Nang increased by 15.8%; Hanoi increased by 13.4%; Can Tho increased by 12.2%; Hai Phong increased by 11.6%.

Tourism revenue in the first 11 months of 2025 is estimated at VND85.4 trillion, accounting for 1.4% of total retail sales of goods and consumer services revenue and increasing by 19.9% ​​over the same period last year because from the beginning of the year, localities have effectively implemented many tourism stimulus programs and diversified tourism products to suit consumer needs. Revenue in the first 11 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year of some localities is as follows: Hanoi increased by 23.4%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 22.3%; Quang Ninh increased by 18.2%; Vinh Long increased by 14.1%; Da Nang increased by 13.2%.
