On December 5, at the Elephant Mountain Pine Forest tourist area (Lam Dong), the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province and the Swiss Tourism Project for Sustainable Development in Vietnam (ST4SD) organized an annual forum with the theme "national green tourism", discussing solutions and building an action framework for developing green tourism in the new context.

This is the first annual forum organized to raise awareness and promote strong action in green tourism practices in Vietnam. The forum was attended by more than 100 delegates including domestic and international experts and scientists , leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of provinces and cities, associations, businesses operating in the tourism sector, and tourism training institutions.
In his opening speech, Dr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said that the Vietnam tourism development strategy to 2030 has identified specific contents on green tourism development. Green tourism is not a slogan or a temporary trend.
According to Mr. Khanh, in the face of challenges from climate change, environmental pollution at some destinations is sounding the alarm bell about sustainable development and the balance between effectively exploiting tourism resources, protecting the environment and improving the competitiveness of destinations. Therefore, green tourism is no longer an option but has become a vital necessity for action and further development.

The main content of the forum focuses on the topic of models, initiatives and policies for managing green tourism destinations in Vietnam - perspectives from stakeholders; discussing the action framework for developing green tourism in Vietnam in the new context, aiming to promote green tourism development and effective management of green tourism destinations in Vietnam.

At the forum, Ms. Nguyen Lan Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, said that Lam Dong aims to become a "green paradise" by 2030 with the attraction of high-class resort, ecological, health care, and marine sports and entertainment centers of national and international stature.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Pham Hong Long, ST4SD expert, the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) has identified green growth tourism development as an important, necessary, and inevitable development path and emphasized the role of tourism as one of the factors promoting the development of the green economy.
