Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu – Rector of Hanoi Medical University.
As a key national institution and the largest training center for high-quality medical personnel in the country, Hanoi Medical University has developed a specific action plan, closely following the general plan of the Ministry of Health and the spirit of Resolution 72-NQ/TW, to best meet the requirements for medical personnel in the new period.
According to Professor Nguyen Huu Tu, in line with the spirit of Resolution 72, the school continues to fundamentally and comprehensively reform its training programs towards a competency-based approach, ensuring that learners meet the increasingly high demands of caring for, protecting, and improving the health of the people. Along with this, the school focuses on investing in conditions to ensure the quality of training; opening new and specialized majors according to the needs of social development; promoting scientific research, technological development, and digital transformation; and actively applying technology and artificial intelligence in medical training.
Connecting training with clinical practice and enhancing professional competence.
From the perspective of teaching linked to clinical practice, in an interview with the Health & Life Newspaper, Associate Professor Dr. Duong Dai Ha - Deputy Director of the Neurosurgery Center, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital; Deputy Head of the Department of Surgery, Hanoi Medical University, stated that Resolution 72-NQ/TW has created a clear and timely direction for the training of medical personnel in the new situation. The overarching spirit of the resolution is the requirement for strong innovation in medical training, focusing on practical skills, closely linking training with the practice of diagnosis and treatment, and better meeting the needs of the healthcare system and patients.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Duong Dai Ha, improving the quality of medical human resources should not only focus on imparting professional knowledge, but also on cultivating practical skills, medical ethics, professional conduct, and a sense of responsibility towards patients. In the context of rapidly changing disease patterns, increasingly specialized fields, and the strong development of science and technology and digital transformation in healthcare, the demands placed on future medical professionals are becoming higher and more comprehensive.
Notably, in addition to undergraduate and postgraduate training, Associate Professor Dr. Duong Dai Ha emphasized the special role of the residency training program at Hanoi Medical University – a unique training model that closely integrates classroom and hospital settings. This is not just about knowledge training, but about genuine vocational training, using a hands-on approach that helps students continuously develop clinical thinking, professional skills, medical ethics, and professional conduct in a real-world treatment environment.

Through direct participation in medical examinations, diagnoses, and treatments at tertiary hospitals, under the close guidance of experienced medical professionals, resident doctors gradually develop solid practical skills and the ability to handle complex professional situations. According to Associate Professor Dr. Duong Dai Ha, this is the core value and outstanding strength in training high-quality medical personnel at Hanoi Medical University, clearly demonstrating the spirit of innovation in medical training as set forth in Resolution 72-NQ/TW.
Associate Professor Dr. Duong Dai Ha stated that, in practice, the spirit of Resolution 72 continues to be concretized by the university through the innovation of training programs towards a competency-based approach, strengthening training linked to clinical practice and real-life case studies at hospitals. Students and trainees have earlier access to the treatment environment and advanced techniques; at the same time, they are regularly updated with new knowledge, promoting the application of technology and digital transformation in training. This contributes to improving the quality of the medical staff, meeting the requirements of caring for, protecting, and improving the health of the people in the new era.
