These experiences are contributing to nurturing love for the homeland, shaping identity, and forming a generation of young people who appreciate and preserve traditional cultural heritage.

Every student is a cultural ambassador.

Amidst the vibrant flow of folk cultural activities in Hung Yen , connecting heritage with schools through hands-on experiences is increasingly emphasized. This approach not only contributes to the innovation of teaching methods but also helps students better understand, appreciate, and be proud of the traditional cultural values of their homeland.

At the Pho Hien Folk Culture Festival 2026, one of Hung Yen province's distinctive cultural events, hundreds of students from Quang Trung Primary and Secondary School (Pho Hien ward) had the opportunity to immerse themselves in unique traditional games, rituals, and activities. More than just participating in the festival, the school created a diverse "experiential journey," ranging from a painting competition with the theme "I am proud to be a Pho Hien resident" to folk games such as bridge crossing, pot smashing, sack racing, and lemon passing.

In addition, the students also had the opportunity to learn about the historical and cultural relics in Pho Hien, a land that was once a bustling trading port, bearing the strong imprint of cultural exchange. For the students, these activities transformed the festival into a true "open classroom," where they could directly experience, observe, and feel with multiple senses.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, Principal of Quang Trung Primary and Secondary School, said that the school always focuses on bringing traditional arts, especially folk cultural forms associated with Pho Hien, closer to students through age-appropriate, emotionally rich, and experiential activities. “We want the students to approach heritage naturally, gently, and without coercion. From there, we will gradually cultivate the ‘seeds’ that nurture love and pride for our homeland and country,” Ms. Trang shared.

According to the Principal of Quang Trung Primary and Secondary School, the important thing is not just organizing activities, but finding ways for students to naturally absorb cultural values. When students draw pictures of their hometowns, directly participate in folk games, or listen to historical stories, these values will be remembered more deeply and sustainably.

Not only were students enthusiastic about participating in folk games, but many also expressed their delight at being able to "learn through play and play through learning" in the festival atmosphere. By participating in activities with their friends, they gradually understood and loved their homeland's culture even more. "I found games like smashing clay pots and sack racing very fun and meaningful. Through them, I learned more about the ancient cultural aspects of my hometown and felt closer to tradition," shared Duong Thanh Huyen, a student in class 8C at Quang Trung Primary and Secondary School.

Through practical activities, students at Quang Trung Primary and Secondary School are gradually developing the image of a civilized, compassionate, studious, and creative young generation. They not only understand history but also appreciate, preserve, and spread the positive values of their homeland. “We hope that every student, every member of the school, will become a ‘cultural ambassador,’ contributing to promoting the image of our beloved Pho Hien to the community,” Ms. Trang emphasized.

Helping students "live" in history.

While at Quang Trung Primary and Secondary School, students experienced folk culture through games and practical activities at the Pho Hien Folk Culture Festival, at Thai Phuong Secondary School (Tien La commune), they truly "touched" history by transforming into characters in the traditional opera "Chua Mau Tien La - A Song That Resounds Forever" at the Tien La Temple Festival in 2026.

The meticulously crafted performance, combining traditional Vietnamese opera (chèo) and theatrical art, recreates the image of General Vu Thi Thuc, a prominent hero in the uprising against the Eastern Han dynasty's rule. From the scenes of the enemy pursuing her, Thuc Nuong's escape journey, to the spirit of raising the banner of rebellion and the heroic battles – all are vividly portrayed through the performance of the students themselves.

In particular, the traditional Chèo melodies combined with emotionally rich dialogue have contributed to vividly portraying the image of the Goddess Tien La – both resilient and indomitable, yet kind and compassionate. More than just a historical figure, this image has become a symbol of the national spirit, of unwavering will, and of patriotism.

Ms. Le Thi Huong, Principal of Thai Phuong Secondary School, said that through the traditional Vietnamese opera performance, the school hopes that students will not only understand but also deeply appreciate history. The training and performance process is also a special learning journey: students must research the historical context, the characters, practice acting and singing skills, and develop teamwork… From there, not only is their knowledge enhanced, but their soft skills are also comprehensively developed. “By participating in the festival, the students are not only performing but are ‘living’ in history, embodying historical characters to better understand the patriotic spirit of their ancestors,” Ms. Huong shared.

It is clear that incorporating traditional art into schools, especially through festival activities, is opening up an effective approach to cultural and historical education . When students directly participate, embody, and experience these values, they are no longer dry and abstract but become more vibrant and relatable than ever before.

From the Pho Hien Folk Culture Festival to the Tien La Temple Festival, a common thread is the proactive and creative approach of schools in bringing traditional culture closer to students. This is not just an extracurricular activity, but also an effective educational method that helps students develop comprehensively in terms of knowledge, skills, and character.

Incorporating folk games into festivals not only enriches the event space but also creates opportunities for the community, especially the younger generation, to access and deeply appreciate the value of heritage. This is a practical approach to making traditional culture a vibrant part of life, thereby contributing to the development of local cultural identity. - Ms. Tran Thi Xuan - Deputy Director of the Hung Yen Provincial Relics Management Board
