"I am very happy and proud," Tien shared. The 11-year-old boy said he had participated in many English competitions, but this was the one he found the most challenging. During the preparation time for the competition, Tien spent an average of 2-3 hours a day doing the questions. During the final stages, Tien increased his study hours to 4-5 hours. If he had free time, Tien could study 6 hours a day. Tien said he never felt tired when studying a lot because English is his passion. The two skills that Tien focused on the most were speaking and writing. He also did the exercises over and over again to minimize mistakes and speed up the test-taking process. Supporting Tien in this competition were Ms. Thuy - Tien's English teacher for 5 years - and the teachers of the English committee of Lomonosov Primary School. Tien started learning English at the age of 4. Tien's first teacher was his mother. Tien's mother taught him for two years until he entered first grade, when he switched to studying with teachers at school. One of the ways Tien improved his English was by watching YouTube. His favorite channels are science and math.

Before winning the city-level First Prize and the national First Prize of the TOEFL Primary Challenge, Le Manh Tien had won many other major awards such as the Second Prize in the English Olympic for Primary and Secondary School Students in Hanoi; Bronze Prize in the National Internet English Olympic Competition. Mr. Minh - Le Manh Tien's father - said that his son is very excited about the competitions. "Seeing my son's passion, the family always creates conditions for him to compete in official English playgrounds. We were also worried that he would be pressured, but he really loves it and is determined. The results he achieved make us extremely proud," Mr. Minh shared. In the 2024-2025 school year, Le Manh Tien became a student at Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary and High School (Hanoi National University of Education). He continued to pursue his love of English and math in secondary school. The TOEFL English competition for primary school students has been implemented nationwide since 2012. In the last season, 100% of the contestants achieved level A2 or higher in listening comprehension, grammar and vocabulary. 97% of the contestants achieved level A2 or higher in reading comprehension according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The competition consists of three rounds: an online experience round, a provincial/city round and a national final round. Contestants in Hanoi must take a speaking test in the city ranking round. This test aims to assess students' English speaking level and skills, thereby contributing to the comprehensive development of students' foreign language ability, helping them communicate confidently and effectively in the context of globalization and international integration. TOEFL test results are globally valid. Students can use TOEFL scorecards for admission when transferring to higher levels, applying to high-quality schools, specialized schools in the country and applying to study abroad.
