Khanh Le and Khanh Son mountain passes: Efforts are underway to repair landslide-affected areas.

Following the historic floods in November 2025, authorities cleared landslides to reopen roads at Khanh Le Pass (National Highway 27C, passing through Nam Khanh Vinh commune) and Khanh Son Pass (Provincial Road 9, passing through Cam An commune). Currently, maintenance units are working to repair landslide sites to ensure traffic safety during the Lunar New Year holiday of 2026.

Repair urgently.

In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year, dozens of workers from Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company were still diligently driving steel sheet piles, stacking gabions for reinforcement, and drilling and embankment steel for retaining walls at landslide-prone areas on the Khanh Le pass. At another construction site, workers were racing against time to complete the renovation of buried drainage ditches and reinforce the road shoulders. Mr. Le Thuan Doan, Director of Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company, said that after the floods in November 2025, the entire Khanh Le pass had about 100 landslide points, of which more than 50 were completely blocked. The company made efforts to break up rocks and clear tens of thousands of cubic meters of soil that had spilled onto the road. Regarding the work of clearing landslide debris and repairing to ensure two lanes of traffic, the company completed all work before December 10, 2025. Currently, the maintenance unit is continuing to repair and address landslides on the embankment slopes, focusing on repairing damaged road surfaces with asphalt concrete to ensure smooth and safe traffic before the Lunar New Year.

At Khanh Son Pass, numerous landslides involving large volumes of earth and rocks were recorded, forcing authorities to organize traffic diversion and strict control measures. After months of focused remediation efforts, the pass is now basically open to traffic. The unit is currently clearing the road shoulders and drainage system, ensuring completion before the Lunar New Year. For areas with negative slope landslides requiring restoration with reinforced concrete retaining walls, workers are erecting warning signs and are awaiting design approval before commencing construction.

Enhancing resilience to natural disasters.

According to statistics, following the historic floods, 32 out of 63 provincial-managed roads were affected. Of these, 27 were flooded and suffered landslides, and 15 experienced severe landslides. Over 15 landslide-affected routes recorded 138 points of damage, including bridge abutment collapses and erosion of retaining walls. Severely disrupted routes include National Highway 27C, National Highway 27, Provincial Road 9, Provincial Road 701, Provincial Road 703, and Provincial Road 707. In response to this situation, the Provincial People's Committee declared a state of emergency for several key routes, directing relevant departments, localities, and construction units to concentrate manpower and resources and immediately implement initial remedial measures.

Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, stated that the work to repair the transportation infrastructure is divided into two phases. In phase 1, functional forces focused on temporary repairs and reopening landslide areas to ensure immediate traffic safety. In phase 2, the Department of Construction, in coordination with specialized consulting units, will comprehensively assess the extent of the damage, focusing on thoroughly repairing severely damaged areas and constructing permanent structures to enhance resilience against natural disasters. This will ensure long-term traffic safety for people and vehicles.
