Localities in Phu Yen province launched a movement to compete in building model new rural flower roads, improve and expand them. Farmers tried their best to plant flowers to decorate the canal banks and beautify the fields. Many passersby could not take their eyes off the beautiful flower roads.
Japanese and Indian bougainvillea flowers bloom on country roads
Arriving at Thanh Duc village, Xuan Quang 3 commune (Dong Xuan district, Phu Yen province), we admired the colorful bougainvillea pots on the cement fence.
Seeing people looking at the flowers, Mr. Tran Binh Phuong, the owner of the bougainvillea fence, came out to introduce: These are Japanese Sakura bougainvillea and two-color bougainvillea from India.
Mr. Phuong further explained: The three-color bougainvillea, including firecrackers, orange, and yellow, when combined with two more colors, white and pink, produces a five-color flower. The Sakura bougainvillea changes color, at first it is light pink, then turns to lipstick, and then withers and falls.
When falling, the bougainvillea petals are still fresh, and their colors still carry their own beauty. Indian bougainvillea has two colors, purple and snow purple; compared to purple, snow purple is darker. Next to it is a pot of red bougainvillea in two colors: fire red and flag red; compared to flag red, fire red is stronger.
The bougainvillea road stretches past Mrs. Nguyen Thi Huong's house with hundreds of pots. Mrs. Huong said: Bougainvillea planted in a closed pot will nourish the roots, the dwarf stems... to bloom. People often grow Japanese and Indian bougainvillea in 3 pots, small, medium, and large.
Initially plant in a small pot, when the tree grows and the roots run around the pot, use scissors to cut off the small pot so that the roots grow into the medium pot; after a while the roots spread out of the medium pot, transfer to a large pot.

Plant Japanese and Indian bougainvillea with dwarf roots. When the flowers bloom, you will see the flowers but not the leaves. Planted in pots with holes (with holes in the bottom of the pot), the root ball will be large. This type nourishes the roots, grows roots, and creates a canopy. Use bamboo sticks to stick around the pot, tie them into bunches to create an umbrella shape.
Some pots have waterfall shapes, so use a “stick” to prevent them from falling over. Some houses grow bougainvillea in barrels and use them to create a beautiful canopy.
In Xuan Son Bac commune, the flower growing movement is also developing vigorously. Mrs. Bui Thi Hoa in this commune said: I take care of the bougainvillea row in front of my house. This is a new rural flower street (NTM) managed by the women's association, so every house has beautiful flowers in front of their house.
According to Mr. Tran Quoc Huy, Vice Chairman of Dong Xuan District People's Committee (Phu Yen Province), Xuan Quang 3 and Xuan Son Bac communes have met the NTM standards, and Xuan Son Nam has achieved the advanced NTM commune status. The locality launched a flower planting movement to beautify village roads and alleys, contributing to improving the quality of the NTM construction program.
Competition to build green-clean-beautiful new rural flower roads
Going on the internal road from Hoa Phong commune to Hoa Dong commune (Tay Hoa district), we will see a flower road "strolling" out to the field.
Mr. Nguyen Van Binh in Hoa Phong commune said: Thanks to the flower-bordered rice field movement, there are curved flower paths along the canal banks, and in some places, instead of planting pots, there are flower patches lying on the ground with many colors.
Many passersby can’t help but stare at the flower road. Walking on the inter-commune road past the gate of Le Hong Phong High School (Hoa Dong Commune), you will see a flower bed as big as a village well, with very eye-catching flower pots.
The ditch runs along Highway 29, from Hoa Tan Dong Commune (Dong Hoa Town, Phu Yen Province) to Hoa Tan Tay Commune (Tay Hoa District), with wallflowers, Polyscias fruticosa, passionflower, and purple evening primrose planted interspersed with perilla, fish mint, crab claws, and chili peppers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuc in Hoa Tan Dong commune shared: Farmers grow wallflowers, polyscias fruticosa, and passionflowers in long rows to decorate the canal banks.
Mini pots of perilla, fish mint, crab claws, chili peppers, and wormwood look very cute and beautify the rice fields. Since planting flowers, people around here do not leave plastic bottles or bags on the roadside or ditch, thereby reducing environmental pollution.
According to Mr. Tran Quoc Suyen, Chairman of Hoa Tan Tay Commune People's Committee, the Commune People's Committee and the Commune Fatherland Front Committee have jointly implemented a plan to participate in the contest "Advanced and expanded model new rural roads"...
Accordingly, the commune's mass organizations and villages registered to compete in 4 model new rural roads to be upgraded and expanded by the community.
Based on the above registration number, the Commune Steering Committee for New Rural Construction will select a number of roads and residential areas to participate in the contest.
At the commune level, each commune registers to compete for at least 1 advanced model new rural road and 3 replicated model new rural roads in villages. The jury will organize field trips to judge the competition and award prizes. This movement was launched by the Tay Hoa District Fatherland Front Committee from 2023.
