Duong Hoa taps into the underground currents of tradition through experiential journeys.

In Duong Hoa commune, traditional education is no longer confined to dry, theoretical textbooks, but has transformed into vibrant experiential journeys. At local historical and cultural sites, each student gets to touch the heritage, listen to the rhythm of history, and proudly continue writing the story of their ancestors with national pride.

These "historical landmarks" hold significant historical value.

If someone were to ask about the pride of the people of Duong Hoa, perhaps the first answer would be Quan Gia - a national historical and cultural relic dedicated to the hero Ly Phuc Man. This is not only an ancient architectural structure but also the largest "practical school" for students in the area.

Mr. Nguyen Phan Tai, Principal of Yen So Secondary School, said: "In the 2025-2026 school year, the school has developed a plan to organize practical experience activities at local historical sites, aiming to educate students about patriotic traditions and national pride, thereby contributing to improving the effectiveness of teaching History."

On January 14th, the school organized a field trip for 6th-grade students to learn about history at the Quan Gia National Historical Site – a place closely associated with the national hero Ly Phuc Man. He was a talented and loyal general who made significant contributions to the uprising led by King Ly Bi in the 6th century, helping to regain national independence and laying the foundation for the establishment of the Van Xuan State – the first independent state after centuries of Chinese rule.

At the historical site, the students couldn't hide their amazement at the beauty of the carvings and the grandeur of the inner and outer halls. Each group of students was assigned a separate task: one group researched the life and illustrious career of General Ly Phuc Man; another enthusiastically took notes on the architectural features and construction dates; and yet another group explored the unique traditional festival on the 10th of March. The dry facts and figures in textbooks now came alive through the stories of the artisans and the dedicated guidance of the History-Geography teachers such as Ms. Chu Thi Hong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Soan, and Ms. Danh Thi Xuyen... Learning through observation, photography, and group discussions right at the local historical site helped the students develop their observational and teamwork skills in the most natural way.

During the experience, students from Yen So Secondary School had the opportunity to directly visit the historical site, listen to presentations about the life and career of national hero Ly Phuc Man, as well as the immense historical and cultural values of the Quan Gia historical site. With enthusiasm and passion, the students actively observed, took notes, discussed, and asked questions, thereby gaining a deeper understanding of the local history they had learned in the curriculum.

Nguyen Khanh Vy, a 6th-grade student from Yen So Secondary School, excitedly said: "Thanks to the hands-on experience at Quan Gia historical site, I was able to approach history in a vivid, easy-to-understand, and memorable way. My classmates and I also promise to continue learning more and further enhance our awareness of preserving and protecting historical and cultural heritage, behaving civilly, respecting the sacred space of the site, and contributing to spreading these positive values in our families, schools, and society."

Through this meaningful activity, Yen So Secondary School hopes to continue innovating teaching methods, connecting textbook knowledge with practical applications, thereby developing students' ability to explore history and fostering a sense of responsibility in the younger generation for preserving and promoting the cultural heritage values of their homeland.

Beyond the serene atmosphere of historical sites, the students' experiential journey in Duong Hoa extends to the bustling workshops filled with the sounds of machinery and the fragrant aroma of rice flour in the traditional craft village of Duong Lieu. This is a central focus in Duong Lieu Secondary School's educational plan, aiming to connect knowledge from History, Geography, and Technology with practical applications.

Here, 8th and 9th grade students witnessed the production process of vermicelli, rice noodles, and cakes – products that have become the trademark of this rural area. By directly talking with the "keepers of the flame" of the craft village, listening to them share their stories of ups and downs, and the meticulousness in each strand of vermicelli, the students truly understood the value of hard work and the perseverance of the people in their hometown.

In particular, the issue of environmental protection in craft villages, linked to sustainable development, was also included in the experiential learning content. Students not only observed but were also encouraged to propose solutions to preserve a green, clean, and beautiful environment for their homeland. This is the most practical way to educate them about responsibility to the community, helping them realize that loving their homeland is not only about being proud of the past but also about acting for the future.

The distinguishing feature of experiential learning activities in Duong Hoa is placing students at the center. After each trip, students are not only expected to visit but also to create "knowledge products."

Instead of lengthy narrative essays, students now have the freedom to be creative on digital platforms, creating lively video clips, PowerPoint presentations, or canvas designs about the Quan Gia historical site or the vermicelli-making village, helping them to mature significantly in their thinking and skills. The combination of tradition and modern technology not only makes activities more engaging but also helps spread the image of Duong Hoa commune further on social media platforms like Facebook and the commune's electronic portal.

The consensus of the entire political system

Seeing the radiant smiles and captivated eyes of the students in Duong Hoa as they learned about history through a field trip shows that the "seeds" of love for their homeland have begun to sprout firmly. As Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, Principal of Duong Lieu Secondary School, once emphasized: Practical experience helps educate national pride and the awareness of preserving historical traditions for future generations.

For these experiential activities to be truly effective, the close guidance of the Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Duong Hoa commune, along with the smooth coordination between the school and families, cannot be overlooked.

The school principals are directly involved in developing plans and supervising the implementation process, ensuring the highest level of safety and educational value. Organizations such as the Youth Union and the Trade Union are also actively involved in creating a cohesive educational environment. Furthermore, the effective utilization of the commune's electronic portal and school Facebook pages has created multi-directional interactive channels, enabling parents and local residents to support, encourage, and be proud of what their children are learning.

Nguyen Thi Tu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Duong Hoa commune, affirmed: Traditional education in each school in Duong Hoa is not about molding outdated values, but about evoking the connection between the past, present, and future. In Duong Hoa, each historical site and each traditional craft village has truly become a classroom without walls, where moral values, patriotism, and the will to strive are deeply ingrained in the blood and flesh of each student.

The experiential learning trips organized by schools in the commune are the first building blocks, laying the foundation for the character formation of a young generation: knowledgeable about history, dynamic and creative, ready to contribute to building a more prosperous and civilized Duong Hoa homeland. The commune Party Committee has also directed schools to focus on coordinating with functional units of the commune, developing plans, and organizing meaningful experiential trips for students in each school year.

The dedication of teachers in schools across the area, along with the attention of the Party Committee and the local government of Duong Hoa commune, has yielded "sweet fruits": students gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of history, continue to excel in their studies, and enhance their awareness of preserving and protecting the cultural and historical values of the locality.
