Previously, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that through monitoring satellite images, thunderstorm location data and weather radar, it was discovered that convective clouds were developing and causing rain in the northern area of Hanoi, moving and expanding to the inner city area of Hanoi.
According to the warning, in the coming hours, this cloud area will cause rain in the above areas, then spread to other wards/communes in Hanoi's inner city. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. The warning level of natural disaster risk due to tornadoes, lightning and hail is at level 1.
The sky in Hanoi was pitch black, darkened by the heavy rain. Heavy storms and strong winds on Nghiem Xuan Yem Street made it impossible for motorcyclists to move, many people had to leave their vehicles in the middle of the road to find shelter. The pedestrian's motorbike was knocked down in the storm. The roof of a pickleball court in the West Lake area collapsed during a thunderstorm. An uprooted tree fell on a Lexus car in front of house number 505 Nguyen Trai street. A tree fell in heavy rain on Xa La street and crushed a car moving on the road. A large tree fell across the road in front of house number 230 Doi Can, crushing the roof of a car with license plate 19A-447.XX that was traveling. Traffic Police Team No. 2 (Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police) mobilized forces to coordinate with functional units to organize traffic flow, cut down fallen trees, clear the scene and support the removal of the accident vehicle from the area. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that thunderstorms in the North are not due to the influence of Typhoon Wipha in the East Sea but due to wind convergence along the low pressure trough with an axis passing through the North. The meteorological agency also forecasts that this evening and tonight, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will have thunderstorms with a common amount of 15-30 mm, in some places over 70 mm.
