North-South railway reopened after many days of being cut off by floods and rains.
Vietnam Railway Corporation said that the North-South railway section through the South Central region officially opened at 8:30 p.m. on November 25 after units made efforts to quickly complete the repair of railway infrastructure heavily affected by floods.
In recent days, more than 1,000 workers and many machines have been mobilized to work continuously to handle 61 damaged points on the section from Dieu Tri station ( Gia Lai ) to Thap Cham station (Phan Rang - Khanh Hoa).
After the route is opened, the train will run at a speed of about 5 km/h to ensure safety, then gradually increase to 15 km/h.
Immediately after that, train SE6 passed. Vietnam Railways Corporation said that from November 28, trains are expected to run again on a normal schedule. Today (November 26) and tomorrow (November 27), the Railway Transport Company will continue to adjust the train schedule to suit the infrastructure situation during the recovery phase.
Previously, due to the impact of floods and rains, there were 61 landslides on the North-South railway line, of which the Dong Tac - Phu Hiep and Phu Hiep - Hao Son sections passing through Dak Lak province were the most serious. The roadbed was washed away and the centerline was shifted by up to 4 meters. The terrain was particularly difficult because there was only one approach by rail.
According to a report by the Vietnam Railway Corporation, due to the impact of floods, from November 17 to 24, the railway industry announced the suspension of 65 passenger trains on the route. Many passengers returned their train tickets, with the number of returned tickets being more than 25,200, equivalent to 17.6 billion VND.
While trains are waiting along the way, the railway serves free meals to passengers at a cost of about 623 million VND, including more than 10,500 main meals and more than 6,700 side meals.
Due to the suspension of trains, freight transport has also suffered heavy losses. 34 trains alone have had to stop running, with a total estimated transportation cost of more than 9.5 billion VND. In addition, freight trains are having to stop along the way and wait for plans at departure stations, some customers transporting consumer goods and food have canceled their orders for transport by rail; cargo trucks on trains are scheduled to be unloaded and transported by road to meet the schedule, leading to additional costs.
