Elon Musk recently made headlines when he revealed information about his family life in a podcast. The South African-born billionaire said that he and Shivon Zilis, senior director of operations at Neuralink, have three children together, bringing the total number of children Musk has publicly announced to 12. Previously, information that the two would have twins in 2021 was published by Reuters based on court records.

In a recent conversation, Musk referred to Zilis as his "girlfriend", indirectly confirming their relationship. This is the first time he has spoken clearly about his private life with the female technology director.

“My girlfriend Shivon is half-Indian,” Musk shared on Nikhil Kamath’s WTF? podcast. He also revealed that one of his and Zilis’s children has the middle name Shekhar, after the Indian-born Nobel Prize-winning space scientist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.

Musk and Zilis now have four children, including twin boys, daughter Arcadia, and son Seldon Lycurgus.

Shivon Zilis is a familiar face in the AI world. She graduated from Yale University and worked at IBM Research and OpenAI before joining Neuralink, the brain implant company co-founded by the Tesla CEO. Musk’s mother has publicly praised Zilis on social media, calling her smart and independent.

Musk’s continued expansion of his family is no longer a strange topic to the public. In many statements, he has said that the declining birth rate is “the biggest threat to human civilization.” The 53-year-old billionaire has repeatedly stated that having many children is something he values and is willing to lead by example.

However, details regarding the assisted reproductive methods, gender selection, or the number of children that have not been made public are not verified. Some information circulating online claims that Musk has “more than 14 children” and “uses embryo selection techniques,” but there is no official document confirming this issue.

According to data published by several major news outlets, Musk currently has children with three women, including his first wife Justine Musk, singer Grimes, and Shivon Zilis. Their children range in age from newborns to their early 20s.

Despite his views on procreation, Musk’s personal life remains controversial. Some argue that he has the right to pursue his personal choices, especially in the context of the billionaire’s concerns about the future of the global population. On the other hand, many point to the contradiction when Musk calls for having more children while the companies he runs, such as Tesla or X, have undergone large-scale staff cuts.
